Mortal Kombat 1 Jamma board
« on: October 14, 2007, 03:45:51 pm »
Hey all.

I bought a MK1 board for $9 dollars.  It was advertised as NON working / glitchy.  After a few shorted pins were fixed and bad solder joints redone, it works great.

Only one problem.  I am having some issues with the sound board.

I only had the ribbon cable, no other wiring.  After making my own wiring harness for the sound / power connections from JP2 on the cpu board, I still didn’t receive any sound.

I found out shortly after that it was just inaudible sound and that i needed a volume pot for the sound board.

After hooking that up i did indeed get sound.  Trouble is...  I only get SOME sounds.  It seems as if all the vocal sounds are missing.  I only receive music, tones and some selection menu effects.

Iv been threw the diagnostic tests and everything checks out (ROM checks / one tone).  Also, the sound effects testing, i only hear music effect that play, no vocals.

Any of this sound familiar ?  Any suggestions are appreciated  ?

Thanks

Ok...   I 'think' i found the problem.

It looks as if someone removed IC U32 off of the sound board.  Its a tl084, and i guess i need to find a replacment.

I replaced that that TTL and ALL sound works fine now.  Hope this helps someone...  But then again, i dont know who the hell would remove a chip off a perfectly good board.
