Buttons on ya CP
« on: October 12, 2007, 02:21:20 pm »
Guys,

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I did a search but couldn't find a defintive answer.

In general terms, what's considered best spacing between ya buttons???   It'll be 6 button and I'm trying to work out whats favourite/standard.

Thanks in Advance

What's a 'ya' button?

I think the ya buttons go on the ya CP.

Anyway, I just space them so there about 1/4" or so between them but it depends on your fingers if that's comfortable for you or not.

'ya' is me being lazy for 'your'  ;D sorry  !!

One thing I forgot to mention is, I was hoping for the spacing between the 1 1/8 holes, I am working out my cp, obviously ya button is going to be slightly bigger than ya hole drilled in ya cp  :laugh2:

I leave 1/8" between mine which spaces the buttons 1-3/8" on center.

Actually what I did when I made my first CP was took a piece of scrap wood, laid out the holes where I thought I'd like them and made a mini CP with just a joystick and 6 buttons.  I tested it for a bit and then made them a little closer together.

I'd get a number to start with but then make a scarp layout so you can just get a feel for it and then go from there.

I space mine at 1-3/8", but that isn't even a full 1/16" between.
It's almost touching.
The bezels on the buttons are 1.32, which leaves .0575 between them on a perfect drill.

Leaf switches end up actually touching most of the time.
I think they have a slightly larger bezel on them.

I can't read a thing on this site, but it was a great resource for me...

Thanks.

The diagrams pretty much explain themselves.

XyloSesame, I'm guessing you've used these figures on a layout, was it comfortable??

Hard to tell... all I have my buttons in are a cardboard mockup...

I used a slightly modified version of the arched layout, FWIW.

I've used this same page recently to drill out my CP (which reminds me, time to update thread).. seems very natural to me.  I'm pretty sure you'll find it more then satisfactory using those guides.

I too used the page Xylo posted,  The Virtua Stick layout with the claw bottom.

It feels great, couldn't be happier.  The template from that site printed out perfectly to scale and we basically just drilled through it
