Some Misc. cab building questions.
« on: May 04, 2003, 04:46:36 pm »
I've been lurking for a while and I've gotten so much help from this board it's amazing.  Thanks to everyone for the help.

That being said, I've got the wood cut, and all the misc bits and pieces ready for construction.  Got a couple questions before I start.

1.  I'm using the Ultimate Arcade II plans.  However, I've opted for 3/4 MDO for weight and practical reasons, and I'll be using a 27" TV .  The plans specify that it should all go together with L-Brackets, but others have said that you really need 2x4 bracing for the TV shelf.   Who's right?
1a.  If I do need 2x4 bracing, what's the best way to do it?  1 2x4 in the middle of the shelf? 1 at the front and back of the shelf?  AND can I just screw the 2x4's into the side of the cabinet, or should I build a frame (basically making a little table for the TV inside the cabinet?)

2.  I'm thinking I'll have to route the underside of my CP for the joysticks.  Is there ANY way to do this without a router?  The joysticks are the only thing I'll have to do.. and I'm not sure if I can get my hands on one without buying it. :P

Thanks,

Crack

A sharp chisel and some patience (less than you might expect) could make the recesses in the bottom of your panel.  Also, you could rent a router for a day from a local rental shop.  Every town has at least one.
