Scroll Whell advice
« on: October 09, 2007, 08:50:14 am »
What do you guys use if you want one??

The Z-axis I guess is enabled by the keywhiz, but what exactly do you use to get it vertical?   Or can you dual map it.

I am completely lost on this, yet it is something that I may need.   Any suggestions?  Thx in advance.

I made a spinner from trackball parts and some machined aluminum parts my buddy made for me.  That is connected to the z access on the optiwiz.  Trackball is connected to x and y.  I don't know of a way to connect it up to the keywiz.  I don't understand your vertical question.  The orientation is dependant on the game.  I just set dial and paddle to mouse 3 z in the controls config.

I don't care which way it is going, as long as it acts like a scroll wheel.

That is the problem.    A game needs it.

Are you saying that a windows config can change a spinner?   Or do I have to have an interface that does this.    If I have to change a jumper, then it is not possible because I of course need to use it as a regular spinner.

As for mounting.    Is there a happs alternate?   It doesn't seem very practical in mounting it that way.

You can remap in mame.  You can't remap in windows.

So, put the spinner on the "Z axis", AKA "scroll wheel", so other (not-mame) games and applications can use the spinner as a scroll wheel.  Then in mame remap mame's "dial analog" inputs to the mouse Z axis (inputs general or ctrlr file).  Like brock said.

As for mounting, search this forum.  Lots of info.

So in other words like I predicted, another dedicated spinner.

Guess I'll have to rig it somehow with a specialized dial.

Err, only if you want the spinner to be on the x-axis and z-axis both outside of mame.  (You never made this clear.)

There are many conditions one spinner will be fine.  I can't tell in your case because you only hint you want a "normal spinner" and a "scroll wheel spinner", but not which games or applications will use which of the two.

OTOH, there are many games in mame that can use two spinners, so there's nothing wrong with two spinners.  And since you can remap in mame, it's fine if player 1's in one the X-axis and player 2's in on the Z-axis. :D

My bad, yes it is outside of MAME...but you do make a good point.

Too bad I already had my hands on another spinner and passed on it.

I guess in the end it isn't that important to me, because I think anyway will look utterly stupid on my panel.

Frankenpanel is one thing, but this is overkill!

You know in thinking about this...is there maybe an easier way to get it to act like a scroll wheel as in installing a switch on the back of the arcade to go from normal to z axis???

Can this be achieved easily instead of using a jumper??
