Cool, but doesn't look very durable...

This came up in a spinner thread a few months ago. Don't think anyone got to see the thing for real.

That's because it's not a spinner....... It's a mini joystick with a twist (not spin) function on it. Much like a microsoft sidewinder joystick.  That's all it is.

Nobody here could find any useful arcade application for it.

I have played with one of those; they are built like a tank and weigh a ton. After messing with it I couldn't come up with any arcade related use for it.

It's great with sketchup and google earth.  And $50 is great compared to the $300-500 models.  I hear if you're going into CAD or 3d design big time, the more expensive ones are worth it.  However, for my minor use in sketchup, this model is perfect.  (I've pictured a second mouse used to do the same things, but these models are probably more intuitive and 6 dof vs a mouse's 2.)

It doesn't register as a joystick or other game controller, though.  So to use in mame some source edits need to be made.  Looks pretty easy (copy and paste one function, edit one to three lines, and call that function after the function-that-was-copied function call), but I haven't tried it yet.  And other games, it probably won't work either.  Looks like it'll work with just the apps that it has drivers for.

Looks like it could be cool for Ikari Warriors and the like if MAME could be made to recognize it!!!!

I really shouldn't knock until I try it, but ::)  ;D....

Since it's limited turn (IOW not a spinner) and analog joystick to boot, the feel is going to be very different than the original.  And as well made as it is, it was designed for CADing and modeling; I'm not sure how long it will last serious gaming. [shrug]

OTOH, testing this device on these games is on my ToDo list.  But that's been there ever since I ordered the it, so I don't see results coming out soon. :-\

Didn't realize it was limited turn - thanks Urebel!
