New Jukebox Announcement
« on: October 04, 2007, 07:29:47 pm »
Hi there guys.  Just finished my Jukebox project.  It was inspired by both the Rock-Ola 8500 wall-mount box and the MAMEROOM wall-mount.  I didn't like the size constraints for the Mame room jukebox, 15inch tft monitor was a little small for my tastes and I didn't like the T-moulding.  T-moulding made the unit look unprofessional.  I capped the edges of the juke with a hardwood 90 degree moulding which I made and I think that it looks great.  Don't have a camera yet but I will be going out this weekend to purchace one and pics will follow.  I had a question.  I live in Japan and am bless with a fair amount of space in our party house.  A lot of friends come to play pool.  I have my stereo as one of the Audio systems and then I also have the wall-mount juke I made.  When we are playing pool we tend to let the stereo system do the work as we are concentrating on our game, same with the Medalist Dart board, but when the games are over and drinking starts everybody starts plugging the juke with music.  What I want to do is have an automatic inturrupt switch to shut down the stereo output without haveing to physically switch it off.  Example: The stereo is going... Someone puts in some music in the juke, the stereo output turns off and the juke audio output takes over.  How can I do this cheaply and easily?  Thanks for the help ahead of time.  Again pics will follow soon.

Yeah, I understand what you mean.  The kids and the wife, however, are not bigs fans of my American and British rock, and so the need for the stereo system with the cut off.  If anyone could help out with this I would be greatly appreciative.

Well i assume you are not using freebox, if you are then there is an option to switch off line when playing music. You just feed your stereo into the line and it will play whilst the music isn't playing then as soon as someone sleects a song the stereo is cut off and the song plays.

Sorry for the lack of updates.  I have been pretty busy.  Also my camera broke and I had to go to Nagoya to purchase a new one.  I will try to post pics this weekend after my students festival.

Hmmm well here is a pic as promised.  I was pretty happy with y jukebox until I got the door on.  The original thought was to make a replica rockola 8500 wall mount out of wood, but lack of measurements access to an original unit here in Japan, made me go to something closer to what I have seen of pictures made by folks who bought the MAMEROOM Kit.  I bought plans and looked them over.  I wasn't really happy with using t-molding and other cheaper workarounds for this juke because I wanted it to look not only professional, but also like a piece that would fit in my home.  The over-all size of the unit was increased to incorporate a 19 inch Mitsubishi DiamondSync TFT Monitor, a shuttle AMD 3200 system, 250 gig HD, Creative labs Sub, etc...  So the size was increased all around.  I kind of liked the buttons but labeling this I kinda took my own spin as you can see.  The door!!!  I was disgusted with how this turned out.  I am going to bezel is with dark cherry as I did the bottom and top of the marquee and the bottom of the monitor, remove the hinges, and insert a key lock which has two lock extensions which go up and down away from where the key is inserted (maybe a hrd concept to grasp, I'll try to find pics of that.)  As it is now the door is an ugly wart on a beautiful face.  I inceased the size of the marquee, was too small on the MAMEROOM plans.  Going to keep the buttons, but the space under the buttons is going to be routed out for a betabrite.  Well, I guess I thought that I was done with the project.  post more pics later.

You could look for a PA type mixer that has a talkover input, but it would be challanging to find one that is stereo I would think. Also it may change back on quiet parts of the songs.

Otherwise you could get a relay or a semiconductor equivilant and power it off the PC so that when the pc turns on the relay cuts over and changes the amp over to being connected to the PC instead. The semiconductor switches often have zero crossing switching to minimize pops but they will be harder to work with.
