Imperial Trackball to PS/2 mouse hack help.
« on: October 05, 2007, 05:27:21 am »
I found a cheap imperial trackball, finally I have a trackball. It is the regular connection. I could use some examples of the mouse hacks.  I am pretty beginner.

Also what kind of attachment goes into the trackball, I would like to buy a connector and use those wires for the hack so I dont ruin the original connection.

I have hacked a betson and 2 happs to mouses (mice?).
Anyway, its not very hard, if you can solder.
If you have no soldering skills, or tools, I would highly recommend you use a pre-built interface.
I seem to recall a website that had some good pictures of hacking a mouse, but I cant find it now.
Here is what I posted on my website, but I didnt go into any great detail:
http://skennys-arcade.blogspot.com/2007/05/interfacing-trackball.html
You will need some desoldering wick to unsolder the mouse parts.
Hint: even if you dont intend on putting in mouse click buttons, go ahead and unsolder the small micro switches and solder in about a foot length of speaker wire to each, just in case you decide you want to add mouse click buttons later.
About the plug on the trackball:
Radio shack probably has what you need. Take the trackball to the store and show the person the plug and what you need. This plug is called a molex plug.
I just cut the plug off my hacks, but to each his own.
Good luck...

Thanks Bob, for doing my dirty work of tracking down the links..

ptistheboss:
I have a hacked mouse that is usb. This is the firat board I made, but my arcade computer had a problem of not finding the ps2 mouse, so I hacked a ps2 mouse.
I will give you the usb mouse already hacked, if you want to pay the shipping.
PM me if so..
Here is a picture of it. The black speaker wires are for the buttons.
The wires are cut short, but I can solder on some extensions if you want me too.

Try and see if you can find an old ms intellimouse with scroll wheel.

Those are the one I find the easiest to hack.

I follow direction http://www.willcoxonline.com/mame/controlpanel/controlpanel.htm
