New to cabinet building. Have a Q about MAME
« on: May 03, 2003, 02:33:00 pm »
I'm using the MAME32 version, 0.67 (WinXP Home). It seems that I can't input mouse buttons as inputs in the Tab>Input (this game) screen. I have a Kensington USB Optical Elite. When I try to input Mouse Button 0 (left button) as a fire button input (or any input) nothing happens. I can see some inputs set to Mouse Button 0, like in Centipede, but I can't set that myself to other functions. I'm thinking it may be the latest MouseWorks version interfering with MAME's ability to read mouse clicks or something.

How this relates to this type of forum is this: How will I know the USB trackball from Happ will work? Are my troubles because I'm using a USB mouse? Is it because I'm using a Kensington mouse? Is it because of the USB on my motherboard? I can't tell because I don't have another USB mouse device I can test. I'm building my own CP (it looks fairly easy if I plan ahead. Hell, I put together this computer with little fuss ;) And I'm good with wood working tools) and I want to know if I'll have any trouble. I'm using an Asus A7A266 motherboard with the usual USB ports (I'm pretty sure they're 1.1 and not 2.0).

Anybody else have this problem?

TIA! :)

Also, is 1-1/8" the standard cutout for pushbuttons and sticks as well as spinners?

I've got a USB Happ trackball working fine on win XP pro and Mame32.  I can set the mouse buttons in the tab menus.  Just did it now to make sure.   Make sure you don't have the game paused when you're changing controls though that seems to screw things up a bit.  Someone pointed out that if the game is paused, that's why you can't choose just left alt or left ctrl, it always gives you left ctrl+ right ctrl and is really annoying.  If you don't have the game paused it works fine.

*smacks forehead* Right! In the back of my mind I was thinking I defeated this problem before but I couldn't for the life of me remember how. Thanks! :D I'll try it!

Pushbuttons and sticks, yes.  Spinners - usually not much bigger than the shaft diameter, I wouldn't go 1-1/8
