old gutted frogger cabinet worth $50??
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:06:42 pm »
i am buying a gutted frogger cabinet from a seller on ebay here is a pic of it ..

he wants $50 firm for it..the seller is a cool guy he is easy to work with and his prices are fair but he doesnt wanna budge on the cabinet..

i get a gutted cabinet with no control panel or a coindoor or a marquee or bezel and no back door.

also he even let me bring my x-arcade dual stick over to see if it would fit in the panel and it did with a perfect fit..nice an snug..

since this is looking good to me with the small size of the frogger cabinet and not to mention it fits the xarcade panel snugly i think i am sold on this but where do  i begin with buying artwork and marques for it?

the cabinet os only about 5'5 in height and it looks really cool to me..

should i  paint it black with red t-molding

or

leave it as it?

Its all in where ya look robot. If its all thats available to you then maybe its a go but keep browsing around and you should find a better deal somewhere else. I was lucky enough to pickup a working and in good shape ms. pac cab for 40 bucks. I found a dk cab (that needed a bit of work) for 60 bucks. You may have to do a bit of driving but open your search up to about 200miles away from ya and honestly finding a better cab an hour or two away from ya is worth the driving time and gas.

yeah well i should mention i dont have a car or a truck and this guy lives right around the corner from me not to mention i only have $100 to last me 2 weeks..

i think i might as well buy it since it my only local option is godwin music  and they are run by ass clowns..

godwin music in NC said they would not sell me a stripped down cabinet if they can help.

i will be picking the cab up monday afternoon i will post some before and after pics when i get the chance.

i know you said he wouldnt budge on price but heck wave 2 $20 square under his nose and see what happens, money smells good when its right under your nose my friend. And besides, no harm no foul to try. I understand you have no means to move one from another location and all, but i agree with peale. Not even a coindoor to work isnt worth $50(not to me). But in the end its what you can afford and your needs are first. Its up to you to do it or not. Good Luck.

I'd like to see someone try to build a shell for less then $50.oo    From the perspective of building one from scratch it's well worth it.

If you're talking about it in terms of construction of course you can't even come close.  But you're talking apples and oranges here.

Heck, it doesn't even come with a back door.  Not that's a terrible thing, but not worth $50.  Seriously?  This is a freebie cab at best, $10-$20 at worst.

I agree with you.  To just buy the all of the MDF to build a cab would be at least $100.  Then you actually have to have the skill to build it.  $50 is a bargain to anyone.  You guys getting cabs for free just live in good areas with a lot of cabs on the market.  Not everywhere is like that and $50 for one is a definite bargain.  I say go for it man

My 2 cents...  If you like the style of the cabinet, buy it.

I don't see many shells selling on craigslist for under $100, so if you pass on it you're going to need to spend quite a bit of time searching for another or building it from scratch.  It's going to cost you at least that much to build it up yourself.

Personally I would walk away.  For one I think that it is way to small.  I don't like small cabinets.  Sad thing is that I love Q*berts cabinet but I think its to small.  I wouldn't by a gutted cabinet for 50 bucks though.  But it is up to you.  Depending on how much you like the cabinet/game.

I wouldn't give him $50 for that, maybe $40 if you can keep the coin door. no coin door AND no back door is a deal breaker to me.

just wait 2 weeks for him to take it to the curb on trash day then you can get it for what its worth.

I would wait and look elsewhere. That is definitely a freebie. In fact, I would charge him to haul it away! I just picked up a Pole Position, fully complete with everything, including almost perfect sideart for free. The guy just wanted to get rid of it. It just stopped working, so he didn't want to bother with it. And yes, he did give me the fuse line...

 :banghead:

I really haven't had time to check it out yet, but I'm hoping a set of big blues fixes the problem.

(No, it's not the fuses, I did check that at least)...

Check your local classifieds, Craigslist, the Klov message boards, and also the RGVA, RGVAC newsgroups. If you are a bit patient and diligent, you will find something better.

Once, this guy named Peale hooked me up...

When looking for a deal hit craigeslist.  I got a millipede for in near perfect condition for dirt cheep.  I think it was about 230.  I saw a few in worse condition at a local shop and the net for almost 700 in horrible condition.  When you find a game like millipede with all that artwork intact thats a god send then add the low price it becomes a must have.  On craigeslist you can find empty cabinets for free all the time or at like 10 bucks.
