Help me locate some Alpha Mission cabinet info. Please!
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:03:50 pm »
Does anyone happen to have any more info on this cabinet? Awhile back I picked up an alpha mission cabinet from a very nice guy here on the board (thanks again Flampoo). After I got the cabinet home I was searching around on ebay and came across some NOS artwork and marquee for the game (which I purchased). The game is fully working (just needed to wire up the control panel). So I do not have any questions as to the internals of the cab but im wanting to know more about the game itself (if it was an original dedicated cab release or just a conversion).

I did what everyone here does when they first get home with their new toy. Take a picture that is.. So here is a picture of the cabinet at its new home sitting in my garage. Waiting on me to restore it.

So, then I go online to the next place everyone else hits up (klov.com).
http://klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=13499

I read a bit but find that there is not much information on the cabinet itself. And I notice something very odd. Not only does the cabinet that is pictured there look alot like my cabinet. But, well it IS my cabinet. Same scratches on the plexi same laminate missing from the front of the cabinet same coin slot reject button missing. It is my cabinet. The buttons and joy have been replaced by flampoo (who I think got this cabinet in either TX or CA). He also included the origianl leaf buttons and joy that is pictured in the klov.com page.

The funny thing is, its actually an old Sega Zaxxon cab converted to alpha mission. I havent actually been able to find much on the cab. The only thing I have ever found is a maunal on ebay (only thing is the manual is only for the monitor so its 4 pages, nothing about the game itself).

Main reason im asking is that im getting ready to start restoring this thing (After I finish up with my Donkey Kong restore). I would like to restore it to its original beauty (which im sure was not in a zaxxon cab since the NOS marquee is larger than the one in this cab, this one has been trimmed). Its not all that important I guess but im wanting to know the true button layout or with what control panel this game is meant to be played. The current control panel is the original zaxxon cp with a few extra button holes cut out and then a 4-5 mil 'discolored'(due to smoke and sun) vinyl overlay decal. The control panel is all bent up and I cant get it back into shape so im thinking I may make one out of wood (dont know if its possible or not especially since im not all that great with woodworking).

Any help or information you can provide is much appreciated. I am really looking forward to cleaning up this cab in the least but I would like to know more info on the original cab or kit..

I see there is a guy on klov that says he has an original dedicated cab. I wrote him but he has never returned my email and its been a month so im relying on the community here to dig something up for me.

Thank you all so much in advance,

Neil

I'd guess it was only available as a kit. Most games released during that time period (and pretty much all shooters) were only kits. THE FLYER seems to back this up.

I remember playing that game a LOT on the NES port.

Looks like a Zaxxon - Sega/Gremlin cabinet to me.
So it was most likely a kit put into it as mentioned already.
