J-PAC problem?
« on: September 25, 2007, 12:07:51 am »
Hi,

I have a JAMMA harness connected to a J-PAC. My arcade cabinet is set up for 2 players with 3 action buttons each, 1 joystick each, 1 Start button each and 1 coin button. Everything is wired up and ready to go except for Button 2 (for P1 & P2). According to the documentation, Button 2 on the J-PAC should map to the Left Alt button on the keyboard by default, but for some reason it is not working. I have downloaded the Passmark Keyboard Test program that highlights each key on the keyboard as each control on the CP is used (e.g. pressing Button 1 highlights the Left Ctrl button on the keyboard), but when I press Button 2 nothing is highlighted. I can play games using the keyboard and the Left Alt key press is registered. I have checked the wiring on all buttons (microswitch and on the JAMMA pins) using a multimeter and they all show 5V, even Button 2. The voltage on the buttons drops to zero when the button is pressed. I then checked the J-PAC edge connector with the multimeter and again it shows 5V for all the buttons. When I press Button 2 in the Keyboard Test program, nothing is highlighted so it is as though the button is not mapped to any key on the keyboard, even though the documentation says otherwise. This problem is occurring for Button 2 for both P1 & P2. All other controls on the control panel are working correctly, it is only Button 2 that is causing a problem. I am running Windows XP on my PC, I have plugged my PS/2 keyboard into the pass-through connector on the J-PAC, but after I open Notepad and press CTRL-ALT-P there is no menu displayed, so I am unable to select the "L" menu choice which lists all the inputs and the keycodes they are programmed to. I have confirmed that the keyboard is working by typing text into Notepad. Could there be a problem with the J-PAC or is there something else that could be causing the problem?  :dunno
