BYOAC Advice for a Canadian? Metal Cabinet?
« on: September 23, 2007, 01:00:27 pm »
Hello, I'm a long time lurker these forums, and i've always wanted to build my own cabinet.

I've been slowly acquiring parts and materials, and now i have the opportunity to get started but i still have a couple of questions.

So far I have acquired:

Computer
TV
2 Happ Ultimate Joysticks, Unfortunately they both came with 4-way Actuators (95-1307-00), so i'd like to either buy 8 way actuators (95-0267-00) or maybe new joysticks.
& 17 Push Buttons of various colors

for inputs, i soldered everything to 2 USB gamepads which work pretty well, there is an annoying delay around 1/2 a second that exist from input to an action in-game. The problem are the cheap game pads. I'd preferably like to purchase a GP-Wiz and some extra buttons for menu, pause etc... I was wondering where the best place to purchase these for I am in Canada.

Also a friend of mine is a sheet metal fabricator and he offered to build me the entire cabinet out of 16 gauge stainless steel or aluminum CNC Milled to the dimensions I specify. Has anyone attempted this? or can anyone foresee any issues with a full metal cabinet?

Thanks for the Advice

I am in Canada and I order from GGG direct.  With the currrent rate of exchange it is a really good deal now.   Buy your buttons and joys from any of the major sellers in Buy and Sell.   Very good prices.

If you can get a good metal cab from your friend go for it.   It will be unique and strong.

Starburst out of Toronto was great to deal with for my project.

Check out my project log.

I am in Canada.

wow, thanks for narrowing it down to only the second largest country in the world, that really helps! allot of people on here would have said i live in the western hemisphere, but not you, nope, you got specific and narrowed it down to a country that spans 6 time zones! good job, it makes directing you to possible local suppliers a breeze!

tba, i live in Calgary, Alberta if that helps. If there are any local suppliers that you could point me to that would be great! I sure couldn't locate one in Calgary. The whole reason that i'm building an arcade cabinet is because there isn't a decent arcade left in the city.
