In my Arcade cab I have my pc and a playstation 2 (through my pc's tv input) hooked up to a billabs multisync arcade monitor.  I works ok and there isn't any noticable lag (we play guitar hero and karaoke games).  Problem is the is some slight ghosting, guitar hero is fine but in karaoke revolution it is very difficult to read the words.  I was thinking that since I already have the component out cable for the PS2 and by using a VGA AB Switch Box and a component to vga cable, the monitor would display the playstation 2 at it's native resolution 480p or 480i.

And if it is at it's native resolution, would light guns work as well?

I am about ready to get the parts but thought it might be best to get a second opinion.

Would this work???

You can CERTAINLY do this.  I do it.

The PS2 actually can be set to run the RGB colorspace on its component outputs, which makes it very easy to do.  The classic thing to do is grab a SCART cable, hack the end off, use the CVBS (yellow) line to recover sync using a LM/EL1881 or similar (since the RGB is not sync on green), and then feed all that to your monitor.  You'll have to go into the shell menu and set the component outputs to RGB, since they defualt to YPbPr (which won't damage anything, but will result in a very green picture).

Oh, one more thing: this won't work for progressive scan games.  The PS2 disables its CVBS output when running 480p (since you can't run composite video with those timings).  This means that while it'll happily output RGB video at 480p, there's no sync information available.  Design flaw, if you ask me.

Yeah but I will not be able to switch easily from the computers vga input.  I found some ps2 to vga converters but I know that I will not be able to use guns with it.

There's no reason you can't run the video from the PS2 through a switch with your PC video...

That's great if you need things at VGA.  If you want it at native res for the game, you don't need anything that fancy.  If you're concerned about having a connector that you can hook up to your switch box, HD15 connectors can be had for a few 10s of cents.
