Spinner or trackball
« on: September 20, 2007, 11:06:10 am »
Hello all

I want to add a spinner or a trackball to my control panel.  I dont have enough room to have both.

I already have rotary joysticks.

I was wondering what you lot think would be the best choice.

I was hoping the spinner could be used in Arkanoid for a start.  Can it also be used as a makeshift steering wheel for games like pole position and Championship Sprint.  Would I have to change the sensitivity etc for this to happen.

I dont really know much about trackballs and which games use them. Is the trackball capable of being used like a spinner?

Yes. Unless original feel in spinner games is very important to you, go with a trackball.

Second vote for trackball.  Golf and bowling games are lots of fun on a MAME cab.

Check out Maws and do a query for each controller, look at the games and decide which one you want more...

If you have room for 1 more button than you have room for a spinner! That's all the room the TT2 takes up. Just my 2 cents.

If its one of the other, go with the trackball. There are more trackball games, plus the trackball is acceptable as a spinner, but not the other way around. Cameltry, Major Havok, Arkanoid, Tempest and Star Trek were really the only standout spinner titles for me.

So, would it be possible to use a trackball in Discs of Tron?
Like side to side for a spinner, and up and down for the push/pull?
