Marquee Retainer
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:07:09 pm »
I was rumaging around Home Depot looking for something to use and I came across a great item.  Look at the drop ceilings, they use a nice aluminum L-bracket that goes against the wall.  Strong enough for the marquee yet light weight enough that its easy to bend to the angle of your cab and easy to work with.  Only comes in white so some spray paint is in order.  Best part: $5 for a 12 foot length ;)

I don't need this info, but I am sure some people will benefit from it.  Thanks for contributing, it's a shame some people don't think this info is worth a supportive response, who knows... maybe those people are ---Deutsche Frankfurters---.

Thats actually a great idea.  It is exactly what I used to hold up my marquee.  Picked up two yard long aluminum L brackets.  Cut them the right length with a hack saw, cuts like butter.  Drilled some holes and spray painted them with some rustoleum.  Looks great, shiny with a real professional look.

You can see in the below pics that the retainer looks much more professional than the top of my cab.

A yellow-green marquee with blue t-molding?  Interesting colors.

I'm guessing the rolling eyes icon was because this has been suggested numerous times over the years...

but it was nice that someone did post this again... might have informed someone of something that they haven't thought of or seen in another post....

Actually its the alien green t-molding from groovygamegear.  http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=218

The pictures just come out really crappy.  Doesn't look blue at all in person.  Its pretty much all green.  The marquee doesn't look that yellow either.  Guess its time for a new camera.

That's overlighting, I think, with the flash being way too close to a sensitive color.

I ended up doing something similar except I use a plastic L-bracket -- really meant for a safety corner for walls and such I think.  It comes in a clear length about 6 feet (?) long from Lowe's for about $2.  Just used tin snips to trim to length and it was very easy to drill.

If you want to go real ghetto (and you know you do), just pickup some of the round plastic raceway at Lowes.  It's about $8 for 10 feet.  Lowes site is down right now, so closest picture I could find is:

http://images.cableorganizer.com/Pan-Way/pan-way-big.jpg

Spray paint it whatever color you want, cut two pieces to the the exact length you need it, sandwich your marquee in the raceway, and slide it in.  The tension holds the marquee in place.  To be extra ghetto fancy, you can use four pieces of raceway by adding two pieces on the side.
