Any interest in a Linux BYOAC forum?
« on: September 08, 2007, 11:00:26 pm »
I know this will help some folks, so I'm trying to drum up interest since the "Forum Discussion" forum doesn't get as much traffic as the Main Forum...

See here:

Cheers,

Personally, I don't see why it can't be done in the Software forum if it is still BYOAC related.  The software forum has been used to discuss DOS, Win 9x, 2000, and XP (Not much Vista related yet). There have been linux discussions before as well including topics not related to BYOAC.  Linux drivers, Frontends, MAME builds have all been posted to the software forum.  Adding another forum or place to look seems like a waste.

I say do a trial.  There may be more linux discussion at the beginning, but if the traffic keeps up and overwhelms the Software forum then ask Saint for a separate forum.  If you want more people to be aware of Linux, then have everyone together so that others can be educated instead of isolating the forum.

I also think it's already covered in the Software section... there is a linux sticky at the top, some questions are posted, etc...

see how its currently organized... not a forum per OS

you know I was going to give it a yes vote because it would keep a little bit of organization and structure to the boards and perhaps make it easier if I were to dive into Linux in the future. I was a bit hesitant due to the fact most hardcore Linux users can get very annoying with their superior "I am Root" attitudes they have and was worried that it would become a "let's bash those who aren't with us and RTFM noob that most Linux forums I've visited have shown"....

but,

the fact that you can't have one thread and see where the interest is and decide to SPAM the boards with another "Hey let's have a Linux forum" leads me to believe that the Linux forum will bring on the attitude that I was afraid would possibly show up.

I will limit my rebuttal to the original thread in the "forum discussion" forum.

Sorry this is what swayed your vote.  :-\
