Frogger?

Hey Guy's,

I would consider Frogger a classic of the early 80's, yet i don't see many people restoring,building talking about it. I've checked on ebay and there are a few complete machines, virtually no parts ie control panels,bezels etc. There doesn't seem to be any real plans out there to do a scratch build either.

Is frogger a classic? Or is it just a great memory from my miss spent youth?

its a classic, but I dont think it ever came in a real dedicated cab, just a generic Sega/Gremlin cab.

Frogger is definately a classic 'game' and I love it but I wouldn't say it had a classic cab and hardly worth the trouble to restore unless you're a complete frogger nut. All the ones I have ever seen are brown wood effect formica.

In australia we didn't get many dedicated cabs, most were generic woodgrain cabs. So to see all these beautifully designed dedicated cabs going for good prices in US is frustrating

Either importing or scratch building is our only way to get these cabs.

yeah I realize that Pinballjim, but others like galaga,pac-man, galaxian aren't and we didn't get those.
frogger is a great game, i don't play it much but it is a classic and my kids love it.

If you ask me Frogger is right up there with the best of them.   

I still love playing it.    The arcade version only though.  I grew up having the Atari 2600 version, which OK by the Atari's standards, can't hold a candle to the original.

I'm going to play a game tonight in honor of this thread!   If I could just pull myself away from Centipede. 

I'm still on the hunt for one of those mini red wicos that were in the Frogger.  One of the few controls I haven't managed to find yet.

Yep I've seen it on Vanguards too.  I has the little ball on it.  The Taito machines at Funspot also have them.
I'd love to get my hands on one.  Is that what they were called "thin shaft"?  Might make it easier to find one.

I got a Frogger cabinet at an auction for $10.  One of my better finds.  It didn't have a board or chassis, so  I stuck in a vertically mounted pc monitor.  I really like the monitor angle and slightly smaller size, plus Gremlin panels are pretty easy to find on Ebay if you want to swap them for different games.  Definitely a classic.

Worth restoring? Probably not.

My MAME cab started out as a copy of the Sega convert-a-cabs (Crazy Kong to be exact). It's a good-looking classic-style cabinet but really doesn't have a lot of flair compared to others. That's one reason I like it as a MAME cab. You don't look at it and say "Hey..a Pac-man cab!"  The woodgrain definitely makes it look dated (I painted mine). Trying to get repro art with fluorescent ink is probably impossible too.

All-in-all I think Frogger is a game that would get old if you owned it.

80's woodgrain=not so cool

From most of the posts I've seen, cocktails and cabarets are about the only things that get left in dark 80's woodgrain. I've seen both Sega and Centuri cabs get repainted or whined about.

OTOH, I might just be scarred from growing up in a house with dark wood panelling on the walls.
