UAII : Opinion and Advice Requested please
« on: April 29, 2003, 03:56:48 pm »
I considering the purchase of a set of plans for the construction of the UAII from CyberPunk over at mameroom.com.  I have also posted these questions on his message board there, but I wanted to get the BYOAC's communities opinion on the following issues.  I welcome comments beyond these issues as well so any input as always is appreciated.
Thanks -Xam

1.  Coin Door: Over/Under coin door (tall).  I have a stacked coin door and the height on the cabinet offers some concern for accommodating said coin door.

2.  Monitor: After looking at the dimensions, I am still uncertain of being able to use a wgd9200 in the cabinet.  The cabinet seems like it would accommodate a 27" inch monitor, but I am uncertain as to how much room is required to mount (and mounting methods)

3.  Control Panel: I am making a set of modular control panels, for this purpose would I be better off purchasing on of the plans for an aftermarket stick (like the UACII-X-Gamer plans) or can I easily modify the full plans to my needs?
3b. Control Panel: Just beneath the control panel there is an out-cropped area that houses the keyboard drawer.  In conjunction with my coin door question, how necessary is this outcropping to supporting the control panel or providing adequate space in the cabinet. Could the outcropping be removed or the entire face of the cabinet brought forward?

Thanks a mill,
-Xam

Hmm...easy to modify? I haven't seen them myself, but...what I did was I took lusid's free plans and made them just a hair wider for the D9200.  Actually, all I used from his was the overall shape, and I used the popular 1x1 method of construction (attach all the corners by framing with 1x1's).  Anyways - the point is that you can take elements from different cabs, twist them around, add your own thing, and use that :)  Plans are plans.  I'm sure they can't be that hard to modify.

'cept that I am a woodworking ludite.  I am learning all of this as I go along and I want to have my proverbial ducks in a row so that if I have to wing something I can be reasonabbly assured of its success.

BTW Frostillicus thanks for the illustrator tutorial :)  It has helped immeasurably.

No problem, glad it helped  :)   Don't be too afraid of woodworking, it's not that hard - worse thing that can happen is you may have to redo a piece or 2, but you can chalk that up to learning experience.

Once you get the plans you can adjust them to suit your specific set of components.  If you are making your own swapable control panels I do not see the need to get the xgaming slikstick plans for adapting their cps to the UAII.

Didn't the UAII plans use to be free?  I have them here and i am sure they were available for download.

Yup, they used to be free.
CyberPunk wants just under $40 for them now.
