Williams Cabinet Control panel help.
« on: April 29, 2003, 12:26:31 am »
I am going to rebuild my control panel but I am having a hell of time trying to figure out how I am going to build it so it will mount properly. I will be putting in what I have now and adding a track ball, and a spinner. So I am looking at something that will be about 14" wide, and 24" long. I tryed searching for some pictues of others but havent come across anything yet. Anyone have some thoughts? The cabinet is a Robotron 2048, I guess williams made all there cabs about the same..

I guess I'll just have to jump right in a see what happens.

I'll be someone would trade you a newer deluxe style cabinet with a bigger panel for that Robotron cabinet.

You might want to see if you can do that before you go hacking up one of the few cabinets that people will pay good money for.

It's already been converted (not by me) to a shinobi, and from what I hear several other games. When I got it (about a year ago) it was just a grey heaping mess with a bunch of low rider stickers half torn off all over it. I would never destroy a classic  :o The only reason I know its (or was) a Robotron cab is from a small hand written sticker inside from a arcade somewhere in california. "Robotron 2048: smudge arcade CA"

And if I had a complete or even half complete Robotron cab I would never trade it. :)

What I meant, is that people will pay for just the wood if it is a Robotron. It is a stenciled game, which means you can paint new sideart, and all the other art is reproed.

Anyway. An oversized panel would look terrible on that cabinet. I would just see what I could fit on the original one.

BTW, all the Williams cabs have minor differences, but share a lot of common dimensions. (But each one has at least one major difference). IIRC Stargate and Defender had wooden control panels, while the others had metal.

Here's a nice cp by another member here, DHansen, on a Joust/Moon Patrol cabinet.

That one came out fairly good. I personally would have lost the trackball rather than bumped out the panel, but at least they didn't try to install a wider panel (I did that to a Defender once, and it looked awful, luckily I did it so the big panel just bolted onto the original one. That cabinet now has the original size panel again, and was sold a while back).

That's almost exactly what I have now. Cut off the rounded edge with the trackball that thats exaclty what I have. :)

Maybe I'll just leave off the trackball...

Or maybe I'll just get anothe cabinet, and restore this one.. Would love to have a robotron.
