how to install the CP top on the CP box???

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to mount my CP top on my CP box.
From what I've seen, people usually mount the bracket on the front face of the CP box.
The problem is that the cp box front is not straight, but curved, as seen on the pic below.

Any recommendation on how to mount the CP top on the box to have access to it when required, but still have a solid assembly?

You can use wood blocks to keep it straight and/or screw in some angle brackets that you can reach when you need to do maintenance.

I used 4 of these that I got at Lowes. holds the panel securely, but is easy to pop off if you need to.

with these bracket, how's the CP top holding in the box?  Is it a thight fit?  I'm under the impression there would be a bit od slack wich could make the top move a bit while playing?

Do you often need acces to inside of the CP box?
I could also fix it with some screws or something else that would be accessible from underneath
via the access back door or from the coin door.
To access I would need a screwdriver...  But if this happens rarely, it could be acceptable?

I use the velcro that is sold at Home Depot.  The adhesive is super strong and it really holds my CP in place yet if I really work at it I can get in there if need be (which I never do).

looks like you have a straight piece at the front of the box to support hinges. Use a 35mm drill bit for the cups in the hinges on your CP top.

I have a straight piece at the front on my cp box (inside).
However, the external face is curved, and I don't think the curve will clear the edge of the CP once open.

You see the thickness of the CP front is 2 inches in the middle. 
Add to this, the CP top, which is roughly 1in wider, leaving me with about 3in to clear.

Those hinges seems to allow up to 1 1/2 in clearance max.  Typical being 5/8

the top of my panel holds on very well.  If i grab it and try to wiggle it, it moves very slightly, but i have never once noticed it moving during gameplay.  I just had some friends over the other day, and they were way into some of these games, and I never noticed it moving at all.

you should find that you dont really need to get into your CP very often.  I get into mine now and then, but I am still in the process of finalizing the controls and stuff like that.  once you commit to a button layout and determine which controls you are using...you wont need to get into it unless there is a problem.  I'd say if you are going to use screws or bolts, dont fasten it down till you are sure it is working properly.

my last panel was held in place with 4 screws, and it wasn't an inconvenience that way, because i just didnt need to open it up that often..i probably would have used screws again for this panel, but i wanted to make the surface as clean as possible.  with those latches, you dont see any mounting hardware from the top of the panel.

If you are willing to cut an opening in the bottom of the cp box, you can put in latches.  Then whenever you needed to access to the cp, just reach inside the coin door and up the opening and un-latch. 

The high height hinge would work for your round cp.  Also, as mention, wood block on all 4 side would be an added bonus.

Velcro, I don't know about other, but my luck with them has not been good epecially with mdf.  The 2 side sticks to each other nicely, but when I was using them, they tend to peel off the mdf top whenever I left them.  Now, on my heavy 4 player one, I use use them clamp thinge like severdhed mention plus a few magnet ones.  On my 2 player one, I use a single latch similar to the picture.

i would have visible screw heads though... still open to ideas for an invisible soution - the clip picture above seem like a good solution - how hard is it to pul open, and how do you call this type of clip?

you can find these brackets along with the kitchen cabinet brackets, usually nex to the magnets brackets...

If you are referring to my recommendation, those are call cabinet latches.  Most arcade use them to secure the cp to the cabinet.  divemaster and others sell them.  Once clip and lock, your cp is totally secure and almost impossible to pull open.  I would say they are the best you can get to secure the cp with all options considered, probably why real arcade cabinet use them.

You have too nice a cab to have visible screws on the CP!!

The latches you are asking about are usually simply called CP latches.  Divemaster has them, Randy I think has them, Twister Quarter, Bob Roberts, etc.

They hold good, and aren'y too hard to open.  Normally you would mount them in a location that you can reach from your top coin door opening.

I used small angle brackets, like ones to hold shelves, and i used a machine screw with a t nut.  It doesn't budge, and unless you crawl underneath and look you don't see the bracket at all.  Works very well.
