I remember that. Someone was asking questions about it or about a similar project a few years ago on a different forum I used to frequent. Found the website about a year or two later. Not sure if it's the same guy.
It is pretty neat. He goes into a lot of detail about the actual assembly. I also like how he scavanges parts from elsewhere, such as gutting a 486 motherboard.
The only drawbacks is the author makes a lot of assumptions about the knowledge involved. In otherwords, You're going to have to familiarize yourself with the NES and appropriate IC substitutions if you expect to copy his work. Would've been nice if the author uploaded the datasheets of the components he used so others can find replacements if they can't find the exact IC.
Another is his mention of how the buttons are read the same way between vs. and NES. The NES reads the buttons serially using a P->S converter in the controller. I thought arcade buttons where wired in parallel and the motherboard handles reading. I've always meant to ask if the wiring was different somehow on the vs. cabinets.
