Mala question for users of the frontend.
« on: August 22, 2007, 12:30:41 am »
Could you tell me if Mala has the capabilities to handle the following features of my cabinet.  I know most of these things are supported, I just have too many projects and too little time to find out the hard way right now.  I have been a huge supporter of Mamewah, but I'm tired of all the configuring.  Could you guys just give me a yes or no to each number please?  In return, I would be more than happy to answer any questions about wood working, as that's about all I got.  Some questions I already know, but maybe if someone does a search someday it will help.

1.  Does it support GPWiz and 49 way joys? (I know this one already)
2.  Does it support LEDWiz? (I know this as well)
3.  Does it support a real BetaBrite?  On Mamewah, I have it setup to change emulator names when switched to them and also the name of the game once selected.  Silver made a program to create all of the rom names and place them in a folder for Mamewah to find.  I have this model: http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=328280

Ah poop, I forgot the other options. :banghead:  I will edit this if I think of anything else.

DISCLAIMER:  I know this is crazy lazy, but I figured it was an easy question for one of the guys and something they wouldn't mind answering.  I'm all about using the search noob.

Dunno  :dunno. Fatfingers has a plug-in for the U360. At one point i think fatfingers was looking to expand his ultrastick plug-in to support it.Have a look at this post, maybe you can ask him. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=62962.msg626424#msg626424

Well I could not see on that link but if your also has a serial interface (not just USB) then it does via my Plug-In.

Okay, thank you for the answers!  I'll look into the joystick compatibility.  The Betabrite does use a serial hookup, so I think we're in business.  Thanks again for taking the time, it is much appreciated.

Oh, I know one more thing:
4. Does it support 640 x 432 resolution?  I am using component inputs on my 27" tv.  Would I need to customize all the layouts to work like I had to with mamewah?

I will say that Mala does the best "Out of the box" job with a betabrite or lcd of any of the frontends so far, IMHO.

I only used loadman's plug-in but it was great.  Especially if you consider the fact that you don't necessarily have to use lcd files.

MaLa supports any resolution of your graphic card. To use a resolution like 640 x 432 for example use a fixed size layout with this size. That means you have to create your own layout if no layouts for this resolution do exist.

I'm running MaLa with a resolution of 368 x 240.

As per your first three questions.

1.  It does the 49ways great using sirpoonga's set49 software.  I have two 49's in my cab.

2.  I think mala handles the ledwiz support better than any other frontend, not that others don't support the ledwiz.  I am using the ledblinky plugin to auto change the controls by reading my cfg folder in mame.  It also lights every game to the original colors from the actual arcade games.

3.  Not too sure about this but I thought there was a plugin or built in support for this already.

Your latest question,

4.  It does the 640 x 432 great.  There is an option to autoset the frontend and mame to this forcing windows to change.  I too am using a 27" tv through component dongle.

There is a simple program that converts mamewah layouts to mala layouts so you could use all your old layouts as well.

Well, he ain't no prize, and there's no women his size,
And that's why the cat's so mean"
