Act-Labs PC USB problem/question with precision/calibration
« on: August 17, 2007, 08:13:19 am »
Hello,

I have a Act-Labs PC USB gun, but have problems calibrating and shooting precision.

When calibrating I'm at about 1 inch from the screen. Then if I shoot from 1 inch, it works well.

But...as soon as I go back and as I get further and further, the gun is really out of sight. If I shoot in the center, it usually shoot like higher and more on right

What is the max distance I should be from the screen?

Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Pitou!

my first guess would be that you are shooting through smoked glass, most accuracy problems i have seen are tracked back to this, if so remove it, there is no getting around this (Que large amounts of people screaming "but i have smoked glass and mine works fine" good for you but it doesn't for everyone. If not try another TV, act labs guns are VERY temperamental when it comes to TV's

Yeah, I've had the same problem with mine. It hasn't got anything to do with plexiglass. I had the same problem while I was "test playing" before the plexi got installed. I have the PC gun and it has done it on every monitor I have tried. This is the second gun/box combo I have gotten from Act Labs with the same issue. Sadly, the only way I have found to resolve it is to aim a little low and to the right

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using a VGA monitor 19", no glass at all.

BTW, I noticed that if you hold the gun upside down, it's dead on, not sure why though!

Hmmm.....upside down, huh?

That is interesting. I wonder if you could use the gansta style of shooting?

Hello,

That´s normal:
The values that the LightGun reads when calibrating from a 1 inch ago are not the same values that  you need to play further.

I´m afraid that you´ll have to learn to play with those values, different distances, requires different values (calibrations)

Anyway, to play near the Screen The Act-Labs works fantastic, you could not notice those precision problems.

Also, for different games, will require different calibrations.

That´s a reason to buy a "LCD Top gun"....With it, if you want to play far from screen (3 meters or more...) You can do a Calibration from all the distances, (Not only from a 1 inch from Screen)
Also, Thanks to the Drivers You can Save your calibration Values for the different games.

That´s a problem of all lightguns, different distance, requires different calibrations. But there are some ways to minimize the  pain (Like use a LCD TOP GUN With Good Drivers)  ;)

Best Regards

How precise is the LCD topgun?

Can you suggest a place to buy them? I would need 2. Does it work with 2 LCD top gun in Mame?

Thank you.

How precise is the LCD topgun?
Thanks to its hardware calibration, if it is done properly....It is the MOST ACCURATE lightgun up to date for home users (Some arcade games have been using this technology from years ago)

It requires that you play from 2 or 3 meters (I play 2 meter s for a 20" LCD MONITOR and 3,5 meters from a 34" Heavy CRT TV)

You perform a Calibration When you wisht it and from the distance where you are, so the precision is perfect.

For some games, to have a perfect precision you will have to Shoot a little away from the screen while calibrating, but when you learn a few tricks for calibration, you´ll enjoy shooting games. LCD TOP GUN Tracks perfectly with perfect precision.
Also, when you learn how to use the Guncon2 driver, You´ll learn some tricks like to save some calibration values for different games, that will save you to do some hardware calibrations when changing games  :applaud:

BY GUNCON2 DRIVER I  MEAN

1) http://xoomer.alice.it/guncon2/ ==>highly recommended for Mame

2) www.guncon2driver.com

WindowsXP highly recommended, sorry  ;)

International Orders on www.hkems.com or www.playasia.com

You can do some goole search to find it in local next to home.

Yes, but this Driver http://xoomer.alice.it/guncon2/ with an LCD TOP GUN is VERY  highly recommended

I believe top guns use LED bars for tracking that mount to the cab, so it doesnt matter what is in front of the screen
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I agree, but what if I put the LED bars on the sides behind the plexi?
