Can X Arcade and Ipac be used at the same time?
« on: August 16, 2007, 03:22:35 am »
Is there a conflict, or can Vista/XP see two keyboard encoders?

I am not wiring to the same board...everything is separate, but I am wondering if MAME can be mapped to used both if the PC has no conflicts.

I have had and an X Arcade, a keyboard passing through the X Arcade and a USB keyboard all connected to the same computer and it was ok.

But not tried an X Arcade AND a Ipac, but I can't see why not.  I would just make sure that only one of them is trying to use the PS2 port though (not an issue here but worth noting) or more preferably both use the USB

I am going to use one as USB and one PS/2.

But I thought there might be a conflict with multiple "keyboards" being that they both emulate the keyboard the same way.

Still, they will be totallyindependent with each other right down to the keyboard assignment.

I didn't figure it would be a problem, but I was just making sure.

I have not found it to be a problem when plugging in multiple keyboard in my systems before.

Up until 0.118 (actually 0.117u1), you could do it but if you wanted both to be used for different inputs, you'd have to make them use different keys.  IOW, mame couldn't tell which keyboard sent the 'a' key.

Now, OTOH, you can enable -multikeyboard and mame will see the difference between the 'a' key from the ipac vs the 'a' key from the x-arcade.  However, you will need to remap to use keyboard 2+, so if you don't share keys between the encoders, you don't need to enable -multikeyboard.
