Are you sure they quit?  There website is still active

http://www.virtualmusicjukebox.com/

Anyway, to answer your question, you might want to describe a few things.   For instance, what type of directory structure you have your songs in, whether you are looking for a video player as well as mp3 player, are dual monitors a must,  etc...     Just describe what you "need" from a jukebox and what would be "nice to have" as well.

You can also check out the BYOAC Jukebox Wiki for lists of jukebox software available.

Actually, I think a better question would be ...... "What should be my favorite food?"

What about what is the best software if you are just planning to use normal arcade controls? No mouse, just joysticks and buttons? I know they can be mapped but there are some that just are too difficult to navidate.

I would have Said Space Fractals Music Box would be a good choice if you are just using arcade controls. SK- Juke would have done it too but that is discontinued. VMJ's forums have been down for a while even though you can still purchase it i don't think there is any support for it anymore.

Arcade Music Box is also discontinued (replaced with MultiJuke). I do still preserve Arcade Music Box (due to it cheaper requirement and it can use 320x240/321x240 resoulutions), and both can been controlled by joystick and buttons.

Even some of these are discountinued, I recommered to check them out (this is why I got Saint to preserve SK-Jukebox as well in both version 3 and version 4)....

Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

Personally i don't see the point in using software if it is no longer supported. If you build a cab around a set piece of software and then find it has a bug that prevents it working properly you are stuck... Admittedly you will probably be able to find simular software that you could use but all the discontinued software has known bugs that it appears, will go unfixed.

That is just my opinion obviously you can make up your own mind.

Sooner or later software went discontinued.... I did that when I lost source that time (resently I did got it again, but wont touch it).

There is a bug in SK-Jukebox 4.XX I heard around song skip on some machines. If you dosen't need vidoes, go for version 3.0, which should been pretty stable as it are. I would like to if/when he dedicated to release the source, so these few remaining bugs could been fixed by anyone. Here I wont to due, since Im do not use Visual Basic, but BlitzMax instead.

There is a bug in Arcade Music Box too, where the volume do not change as it should. Here VolumeTray or such utility can workaround that bug, so no big issue (and have description that on my homepage).

Now Im trying to port MultiJuke to Linux, since all others software to Linux is webbased. It would been fine to have a fullscreen app to Linux as well. I guess MultiJuke would been the only chooise for a fullscreen applications for Linux, when it got released. I hope so that software is the best chooise, if you won't pay for Windows. I do not plan to create a video jukebox (no video support in BlitzMax).

I wouldn't say there is a best. I would say however there is a best that suits what you need. I've personally played with many and like one the best, however thats for you to decide when you play with many. ;)

Do I think VirtualJukebox is one of them? Well NO, but thats just one opinion.
