Problem with trackball in Golden Tee?
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:33:19 am »
I have the trackball hooked up to the ps2 port, and it works perfect as a mouse... However when i go to use it in golden tee it works some times and sometimes it doesnt. Like ill go to roll the ball back (Which should make the golfer bring his club back) But he just wont do it then all of a sudden he just randomly hits the ball like 10 seconds later, where as other turns work fine. Anyone have any idea ? Think i should change over to the usb port since its faster than ps2, also how would i get the trackball to initialize if i use the Usb port.

Need more info.

Is this a happ trackball or something else?

Generally when you use a trackball with embedded ps2/usb controller, it can't sample fast enough for big golden tee swings.  Most people end up getting an optiwiz or an optipac to get faster response times.

Using a trackball in a usb port should recognize it as a mouse.  It operates the same way as hooking up a usb mouse to your computer.

just as green giant stated, I have the happs 3" trackball hooked into ps/2 port via opti-wiz courtesy of GGG. no problems here I did initially have to to play with the settings in the game (sensitivity adj, x  y axis adj...)

Hello Green Giant and kiddk1. I'm hoping you can help me.  I'm experience the SAME EXACT thing as the original post. It's like there's a "hitch" or something in taking big swings in Golden Tee. Even on the page to select how many golfers, if I take a "big swing" with the trackball (thrusting it forward) it pauses for a few seconds, and then starts to go.

I have a SlikStik panel with a 3" Happ trackball. It plugs directly into my USB. I haven't opened the control panel to see if it has it's own control board, but I'm guessing it's just an embedded USB/PS2 cable??

Do you think I need to get one of these "Optiwiz" things?  If so, where/how do I install it? Will I have to open my panel up? Is it just a card that you plug the USB from the trackball into, and then it has it's own cord that goes to the USB on the computer?

I would have thought maybe a SlikStik CP would have a controller in there, but I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this one out.

I bet my trackball would work better on a lot of games if I'm having an issue with it not being fast enough to sample some of my movement??

all the optiwiz does is create an interface such as a usb or ps2 to plug in your happs trackball, are you saying that the trackball already has a usb interface?  if so I see no reason for the optiwiz, have you tried going into the mame settings (I beleive it is the tab button) and select "input this game" and dial up the sensitivity for the trackball.  good luck

I'm not sure if my Happs trackball has an interface or not - it's inside a SlikStik control panel.  As far as I know, it just has a USB/PS2 connector coming off it??  If that's the case, I should get the opti-wiz correct?  Where does the opti-wiz get installed at? Inside my control panel? Between the USB plug from the trackball and the computer? Does it need to be powered?

I guess I should open up the control panel, and see if there's an interface already or just the cord coming off with the USB/PS2 end.  Even if there is an interface, I should probably change to the opti-wiz because it's definitely not working.

I've played with every sensitivity setting for the trackball from the lowest to the highest value.
