arcades in the Outer Banks?
« on: August 10, 2007, 01:31:14 pm »
We will be taking a trip this month to OBX, and I was wondering if there are any arcades there worth checking out?

Been there twice in as many years. There is an awesome collection at the Dairy Queen in Nags head. It is right on HWY 12, it is the DQ that looks like a barn. Half DQ, half arcade. Mostly classics. Didn't have a lot of time to hang out and take pics, hopefully you can and share with us.

I will be going back for the week of Oct 6th for some serious kiteboarding action!

I searched arcade and "Paradise Golf N Arcade" came up. I posted a Google map link below to it, and the DQ. Have fun, be young...drink Pepsi.

Thanks!  Hey is the Paradise Golf place the one right when you go over the bridge on the right?  Where they rent the jet skis and stuff?

I've never been to Paradise Golf, just drove by it. Didn't know they had arcades or I woulda stopped. Looks like it is just over the bridge and down HWY. 12 about a mile. As far as Jet ski rental goes...Everybody and there brother rents those out there.

One more thing, I'm sure you aren't a kiteboarder, or you would have mentioned t by now. However, the Outer Banks is a World Class Kiteboarding Destination. In case you do want to try they have some of the best instructors in the business. Kitty Hawk Kiteboarding center is right next to the arcade Dairy Queen in Nags Head on the sound side. Ask for Chris.

Here are 92 photos that my wife Melissa took last time we went to the Outer Banks.
Warning: Mostly kiteboarding Pics of me and my kids... :)

Funny ... I thought about asking about arcades in OBX as we were there a couple of weeks ago.

We were up in Corolla, though, and the freaking drive down to Nags Head was long enough (single lane w/ traffic) for me to only do it once to go fishing.

DK - I almost stopped in at the KHK kiteboarding location, but decided to avoid the inevitable hit to the credit card upgrading those old Flexis of mine.

Yea, the cost of new equipment will truly do you in man. Foils seem to be fairly reasonable though now-a-days. With some new brands popping up it's fueling some real competitive pricing from the big dogs like Flexi and Ozone. If you ever decide to go to inflatables, prepare for a 2nd mortgage on the farm.  :D

The OBX is a ways from home for you Cheffo...friggen' awesome out there though.

Mother of GOD no..

Was actually much better than it sounds ... my wife's van is a dream to drive, has a great entertainment system for the kids and a bloody nice sound system for the adults. Throw in a Gameboy and some Harry Potter books and the kids were fine.

Sadly, I still had to battle the wife for control of the stereo ... a man can only take so much of the BeeGees and Commodores. The resulting increase in average speed probably cut about 15% off of the overall travel time, though.

 ;D

Enjoy your trip and take pictures of the arcades if you visit them -- we're likely going back next year for a longer stay (and I'm going to skip the fishing), so will want something to do.

I prefer Topsail Island, NC to the Outer Banks, but the arcades there (used to be some GREAT ones on fishing piers) have disappeared. There was seriously an arcade attached to the Scotch Bonnet Pier that was the size of a warehouse and had shutter gates that were open to a boardwalk on the beach.

We will be there for a week, so I can definitely make time to hit at least one arcade in the area- I'll have to do some sleuthing to see if there are more.

And SHAME on you for being at an arcade site and blaspheming arcading to go hang-gliding!!  PFFTT!!!   :D

I am really susceptible to sea sickness ... Dramamine, patch, etc and I still get sick.

I loved it and caught a nice marlin, but not fun being sick for 12+ hours.

Well we will be in Waves on the week of Oct. 6th. I like the Waves area because it is central to the OBX. Halfway between Nags and Hatteras that is. Which is pretty much everything to us.

Outer Banks Fisherman, questions for you fellas. My brother in law will be tagging along on this trip for the sole purpose of fishing. He might do a charter boat one day out of the 7, or maybe not at all. My guess is he will be standing on the Ocean side shore trying to reel some in.

What species will be popular shore fishing in early Oct? We aren't much for Ocean fishing at all being from Minnesota :D
Also, what fishing resources are you aware of in the Waves area? Will he be able to rent his rigs, rods, etc? Is it reasonable to rent equipment for shore fishing?

Make sure to get a (at least temporary) fishing license for NC. In the past, surfcasting didn't require a license, but they changed it at the start of 2007 so that you do. I found that out after a clerk sold me a nonreturnable pole.
