Place TT2 between and below joystick and buttons?

Hi all, first time post but longtime lurker.  I picked up a bare X-arcade demo cabinet that Fry's was closing out for $99, and hoping to transform it into a sweet looking system.  Plan to start ordering components once a certain 49-way product is finished by someone who shall remain nameless.   

Anyhow, my plan is a SFII + trackball layout and I was thinking about mounting a TurboTwist 2 between and below the joystick and buttons.  Kinda where people put their P1 7th button but lower so my thumb won't bump it and the steering wheel attachment clears the joystick when used. 

I did some searches, but only found one person doing this which surprises me because it seems like a good position.  Your hands are on either side and twister games are usually too intense to need a wrist rest.  Am I missing something?

Also, I really want symmetry in my CP, so I was hoping to buy an identical TT2 knob and mount a volumne control in the corresponding P2 position.  Anyone have any opinions on this whole scheme?

How tall/deep is the TT2?  I know on my cp
if I were to set anything down that low it'd
have to be pretty short b/c the cp is at an
angle.

I think knob mode is pretty low.  Steering wheel mode will probably stick out in front of the cabinet some, but that sounds like an advantage to me.

While I think Vidmouse is referring to the depth of the TT2, I doubt it will matter.  It looks to be no longer than a standard button w/micro switch, most CPs have room for this, but it would be worth looking at to make sure.  If you didn't have the depth but really wanted it and were not planning on using the additional weighted part that attaches to the shaft on the bottom, you could probably arrange a custom shortened shaft version from Randy at GGG.

OK, now I understand and it's an important point.  The CP case should be deep enough at that point so the TT2 and energy storage thinkee don't hit bottom.  Thanks for the heads up.

Or, you can use a TokenTop Knob instead of an ESC.  Then it would only protrude about 1 5/8" under a 3/4" panel. 

It might get costly if you are looking for the "volume knob symmetry" arrangement mentioned earlier though.

Thanks for the length number Randy. 
So costly in terms of you not wanting to sell an extra knob, or costly in terms of the time and effort needed to relocate a computer speaker's pot to the control panel and glue or epoxy the knob onto it?

No, I was thinking that it might be costly for you!  If you really, really wanted to replace the knob on your deep fryer with a TokenTop, I'd sell you two so you'll have a spare.  Who am I to judge?

There are so many skills involved in doing this type of work that you can learn something new every day for a long time.  I've been to commercial kiosk companies with a staff who collectively have less of a clue than some on these boards, so don't be too hard on yourself.
