steering wheel + pedals on a upright cabinet?
« on: August 06, 2007, 06:06:22 pm »
Are there examples of upright cabinets with steering wheel and pedals I can look at? does this even exist?  ;D

I guess I mainly would like to see some pictures to help me plan the placement of the pedals...

These are removable - I am NOT going to mount permanently
I'll plan to have placements to instantly "hook" the wheel and pedals box,.

I am going to get bar stools BTW... perhaps I can setup the pedals to work in sitting position?

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT! GO BYOAC  :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

(I have a Logitech 900 deg. wheel - originally bought for a PS2 I had with Gran Turismo, I THINK it also works on PC with drivers)

I would rather rig alot of these games to a spinner and pushbutton.

To me, it doesn't hurt the effect that much.   Steering wheels are nice, but there isn't a practical way of putting them on unless you switch out the entire panel.   Too lazy for that.

i have a clear picture of how to get the wheel on there, but the mysterious part is the pedals box.

Maybe cut a little recessed area out in the bottom of your cab that the pedals can sit in and then have a cover to put over the hole when the pedals are not in use.
Just thinking out loud here...

Somewhere I've run across a picture of a MAME cab that is about what you are looking for....unfortunately I don't recall where I ran across it.

Basically the person built a standalone sub cab and mounted the steering wheels, shifters, and pedals onto.

You could slide it up in front of the regular upright cab and hook up a couple of quick connections to play driving games.

I'd like to do something similar eventually.  Right now, I just use my two trackballs to play games like Super Sprint, but it's definitely missing that fun feel of just throwing a full 360 steering wheel around and watching your car go skidding sideways around corners!

EDIT:

Aha!  This isn't the one I remember, but it gets the idea across....

I knew I wanted pedals before I built my machine, so I planned for it and have pedals permanently fitted:

(Edit: bottom of Page 1 for pedals, Page 3 for wheel)

My steering wheel(s) are on removable panels of course.

i have toyed with the idea of adding a wheel and pedals to my cabinet, but i havent actually done it yet.  what i planned on doing however is to cut a small door into the front of the cabinet, have it hinged at the bottom, so it flips down, and have the pedals mounted to the back of it.  that way you could just unlatch it and flip it down when you wanted to play, and when you are done, it folds away, and you dont have to worry about unhooking anything.

I was just going to recommend the flip-down approach myself .... I think that would be an easy solution

My cab has a yamaha bike steering, MC2 universal wheel and a Fanatec wheel for my xbox.  I just attach them on the cab for whatever game I want to play.  If I had to do it again, I would make it rotating.  Those extra panels for wheels & joysticks take up a lot of room.

I would show you a picture, but I can't find my project announcement.  It hasn't been updated in a few years.  I guess I'll have to get on that one of these years...
