Please Update Me On Using A Guncon 2

Ok i have a spare PS2 Guncon 2 kicking about, and remember reading posts ages ago about using this gun with mame. In my cab im using the ultimarc ArcadeVGA card, on a TV set, via a scart lead (im in the UK). What programs or devices do i need to get my Guncon 2 working with mame.

 Does it work like a usual light gun or does it detect where your pointing the gun on the screen, as in some old gun aracde games you used to have a cursor on the screen that moved about when you moved the gun about, is this the same here, or is it more like a console lightgun without any cursors??
