U360 and Ipac2 wired up
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:29:27 pm »
I'm getting 2 U360 and and Ipac 2

Ultimarc says that the Ipac2 has wiring for 2 joysticks, 8 buttons eac, 4 extra buttons and a shift.

What I'm wondering is: Do I wire the U360's into the Ipac or do I wire them into the Ipac and use the USB (I guess that is the only way to yse the mapping?)

And does a U360 wired through a Ipac2 work the same (2, 4, 8, 49 way mapping) as if it was normally plugged into USB?

You can do either.  However, if you wire the 360 into the IPAC then your 360 ultimately becomes a (micro) switch joystick and cannot do analog modes.  My advice would be to use the USB connections only on the 360 and have them be treated like gamepads.

Good luck.

So the U360's are both plugged into USB, and are gamepads???

To clarify:
The main purpose of the ability to connect the U360 to a encoder-type device is in two cases:
To connect to a non-USB device such as a JAMMA cabinet or game board or,
To use with applications which do not recognise gamepad axes.
This excludes Mame so there is not really much to be gained by connecting the stick to an encoder for Mame, just plug each into USB and it will have full functionality in Mame.

OK I see what your saying.

Plug the U360's in with the USB's.

Then for buttons use the  IPAC2,      right?

But you can also hook up the buttons through the U360 correct?... I thought they supported 8 buttons and then 7 more by making one a shift... so do you need the I-Pac?

Maybe I'm wrong though... I was once before.  ;D

You are correct.  But, he already has an IPAC and wants to use it.  If you don't have one, then you can hook the buttons up to the U360.

(dont want to hijack thread, but I am in a similar situation and want to confirm what I need)

To plug buttons to a U360, you need the optional U360 "harness" ... correct?

I already have an IPAC2, and am ordering U360 sticks which I'll plug USB to get all the modes including analog and use the fatfingers plug-in in MaLa.
I don't need to order the harness if I plug all my buttons to the IPAC2 correct?

Thanks for clarifying... I already ordered IPAC2 before ordering U360's

Yes - you need the harness, and that will give you 8 buttons per U360, and I believe Andy just added a shift capability to give you more for admin functions. If you have a two player panel, you don't need an Ipac at all...

But only if you want the buttons to be through the joystick.  If you already have an Ipac and will wire the buttons through it, you don't need the harness.

i have the street fighter setup, so each joystick config uses up 6 buttons, total of 4 buttons left for admin purposes...one of 4 = shift, then we got 3 left.
1) Plyer1 (Shift 2) start
2) Coin1 (shift 2)
3) pause (shift reset)

Then you could use the other 12 buttons (in the street fighter config) for shift admin keys...

is that correct?

I'm assuming that for mouse left and right click, you'd use a xarcade trackball setup (removed from the hard case it comes in and mounted on your control panel)

Otherwise you'd need extra keys for mouse left and right...any ideas other than that?
