what kinda cab for second project?
« on: August 03, 2007, 03:23:58 pm »
Hi all!!

it's been a long time since my last post. But, i'm back to bother again ...

I've made my first and only cab about 2 years ago, it works fine, but there's a slight problem. My wife doesn't let me take the cab to my apartment because it's too big... the poor thing it's stuck at my brother's house... :(

Well, now i've made up my mind!! I WANT A CAB AT MY PLACE!!!  :soapbox:

My solution is to build something smaller, so that's why I'm looking for suggestions. I want the cab to be able to hold two players with the SF/NEOGEO layout, I've seen some slim cabs around, so I thought I could get some advice here. Also I've been looking forward to build a cocktail, but I think they're too bulky, is a cocktail a good option, ohhh ... my wood skills are L4M3.

What can I Do?

Taito cabs are small, but good. A 2 player neo geo is a squeeze, but it will fit.

If you don't need a trackball, I would suggest a Ms.Pac/Galaga style cabinet.  Looks classic and can fit all your buttons (barely).

I'm looking to do a cocktail too.  I think it's the best solution for you.  My plan is to do controls on 3 sides so that I can take advantage of horizontal and vertical.

Check out this cocktail...

If you build it... they will come.

Thats a good cabinet right there, it's pretty damn big though. If I put a 4 foot base on it, it would be a full size cabinet. The one I'm working on now is much smaller:

I'll be honest with you though. What you really need is one of these:

Smack her around with that enough and you'll be able to build whatever you want.  ;)

i 2nd a cabinet like ms pacman.  For street fighter type, it's going to be a bit tight

Here's a pic from another thread.... but with only 4 button.

I have a ms pacman conversion cabinet, but added a 34in wide control panel to it.  It uses a 21in monitor.  U can probably squeeze a 25in tv in there if u decase it.

Was just trying to show the size with similar setup without expanding the control panel.  Yes, its not really a ms pacman cabinet, but the size is about right.

Build the hugest, most obnoxious lime green cockpit cab that you can.
If you're ever plan on her being more than a girlfriend, now is the time to either break her in or send her packing.  ;)

offtopic but, my fiance is cool with my two arcades and wasn't against me getting 2 more when some were offered to me
that's why she's my fiance and not my girlfriend

anyway, you could do what i did before and just make a control panel
i made a 4 player one that fit perfect on my coffee table in front of my couch
that way you can put it up and only bring it out when you want to play
you could also hack some wireless xbox 360 controllers in there so you don't have any wires between you and your setup

that's what i would do if i had your problem

btw, i have a ms.pacman and although you would "fit" with the street fighter setup, i wouldn't recommend it
it works perfect for one player games (or multiplayer games where you take turns)
but i would be too cramped with two people, but then again, i'm also a pretty big guy

I'm not a big guy, and I wouldn't recommend a SF setup for a CP this size.
