How do you mount a Lumindisk?
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:35:46 am »
Posting this here for more eyes to see .......

I bought one of those 12" Blue Lumindisks for my jukebox cabinet but I am unsure what the best way is for mounting it to my cabinet.    I was thinking I could just buy some clear plastic L-brakets (or something) and attach it that way, but before doing so, I wanted to hear what my other options would be..... thanks

drill two holes behind the lumidisk an use a small black zip tie to secure the lumidisk

Kinda depends on how you planned to use it on your juke......

Do you plan to cut a round hole and mount it from inside the cabinet? (like a window hole)
Do you plan to mount it completely on the outside the cabinet? (like hanging it on a wall)

Unclet,
I can help you with that.
There would be 2 ways to mount that I have seen. Some people cut a hole so the entire glass ring sits inside a countersunk portion of the wood so it lies flush.

For our games we prefer to make a hole all the way through the wood but smaller. This allows the lumindisk glass surface to lay outside the smaller hole and flat on top of the wood surface.
The hole is sized exactly the shape of the lumindisks round plastic housing so you can't see through the hole when it's mounted.

The result is a more appealing look IMO.

We devised a method to mount using pieces of wood and velcro. This allows you to easily take out the lumindisk from the outside for replacement if it ever breaks or you want to change the settings.

PM me your e-mail address and I will send several pics of how we mount the disks along with some brief instructions.

The method I use assumes the disks will be sitting inside of a speaker cover. Thats how I did mine:

Very nice work on the juke leapinlew!    :applaud: How many watts output?
Those are neon rings right?

The install might be preferable for a flush mount instead if covers are used. Either way I will still provide the wood/velcro mounting method we use.

Lots'o'watts - thats the only way to do it. Find out what decibel gets the cops to your house and decrease by 1 decibel until the cops quit showing up.

They are neon rings. They covers are chrome spinners (cheeeesy!) and they are spinning in the pic which is why they are a bit blurry. I have 10" rings which I mounted using the method I described earlier and I used 12" covers so the rings are inside of the cover.

Well, I was planning on mounting the disk on the outside rather than mounting it from behind since it seems it would be more visible that way.

Thanks for the ideas ....

I like the sounds of that idea.
Now that I hear it, I can visualize it as well.
