Analog or DVI?
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:00:01 pm »
OK,

I'm now at the point that I need to put together a computer.  I'm using a 20" LCD monitor with both analog and DVI inputs.  Am I really going to notice any difference if I use the analog hookup?

You will notice a dramatic difference between using the D-sub(VGA) connector and the DVI.  The DVI will look great, but it might not be the best for emulation.  You are probably better off using the analog.

I would go DVI with an LCD monitor - that is how I have my cab setup. Also, if you plan on playing any pc games, the difference in clarity is noticeable...

Go DVI if you are going to do mame with artwork at better than 1280x1024, or text at 1024x768, or anything besides mame at better than 1280x1024 res.  AND you're running at the monitor's native resolution.

DVI is sharper than VGA.  This isn't needed at low resolutions, or if you run at different res than native (that's not a fraction of native).

IMO, run at the native res & DVI.
