Running wire inside cab (speakers)
« on: August 02, 2007, 10:51:35 am »
Hi all,

Following the plans from Project Arcade, I cannot see a way of running the speaker/marquee light wires down the back of the cab to the power - the speaker shelf buts right up against the back of the cab.

Do you cut a notch or just not put it the shelf all the way back?

Also, same from the monitor - there is a gap at the back of the cab, but I'm not too keen on wiring hanging in and out the back of the cab, so I was going to bore a hole in the monitor shelf to drop the cables through - again, is this ok?

Cheers, Paul

Mine didn't go all the way to the back of the cabinet.

Cool site - hey, your cab looks like mine!  ;D I am adding a keyboard drawer too - will have to have a closer look how you did it and copy ya!

I have had a major problem with the front of the cab - after worrying about hinging the front, I sliced the panel into two, to have two hinged doors. I've never made doors or used hinges before and it shows!

Going to take the doors off and I have a new idea which is easier... will post more pics on my blog soon.

On mine, I only made the speaker shelf go back 8 or 9 inches.  Just drill out a big hole back there or cut out a notch to feed those wires.  Noone will ever know it is there.

As for the front, a single door works best.  What you need are European hinges.  They sale them at home depot, but they basically allow the hinge to be completely hidden when closed.  The hardware is all inside the cab.  It will open out 90 degrees, and they can support alot of weight.  My coin door has no affect on the hinges working.
