How much of a ransom offer to save this poor girl?
« on: July 31, 2007, 01:59:13 pm »
Saw the ad for this one yesterday, just got the pics this morning.  This woman is asking $500 for this.  I think she should pay me to rescue it from her.  I was thinking about making an offer of 150 and leave it at that, take it or good luck.  I have not played it, or been there in person, but it sounds like internally it is all intact so would probably be better to restore it than to mame it, but again, depends on extent of damage.

What do you guys think?  What would be a reasonable offer for something like this?

Thanks,
D13

Oh, and yes there does appear to be lots of interesting scenery in the photos. :-\ :-\ :-\

That thing is just a step above junker status. It could be saved, but you really shouldn't pay more than $100 or $150 for it.

Looks like water damage on the bottom 4 inches or so. The pics you supplied don't give enough details for us to determine its value. Control panel shape, monitor shape, burn-in, does it work, etc. If it does not work, then $150 is a fair offer. You can't buy all the parts included for that price on a scratch build. If it works, $200 wouldn't be too bad of an offer. It really depends on the lady. It can't hurt to go in with $150 after you determine the shape and playability in person.

I'ts not just the bottom that has water damage.  Look at the second pic and see the water under the glass.

Looks like she had big flower pot standing on it.  Maybe she overwatered the plant and the water spilled over or just the sign is peeling off from age.  The bottom MAY be a water damage or the little fella in the background uses it as a tree or hydrant  (hope not)  ;D

$150 would be the maximum I would offer, as this needs lots of work and there is a chance that some of the components are fried from water (?) damage.  I would advise more than just visual/mechanical inspection.  I would use my sense of smell to determine, if urine is involved, as you will have hard time getting rid of that smell, if that's the case.

That is fairly common with old Ms. Pac cocktails . All it takes is a spill here and there and the paper underlay sucks it right under the glass. You rarely see it on Pacmans because they had painted on underlays.

By the looks of it, you'd be doing her a favor by saving her from hurting her back lugging it to the curb.

$75, $100 Max and that's if it works.

Yes, I don't see people lining up outside to buy it.  Give her an offer and phone number and wave the cash before you leave.  I'm sure she will get back to you very soon.  ;)
