I think a little more info is needed here.

What do you mean by "solid picture"?  Are you getting nothing at all, only sometimes, partial picture?

Have you verified that the DVI on your video card works?  Hooked it up to a monitor with DVI input?  Does the TV have DVI and/or HDMI input?  Does the card have settings to tell it to use the DVI port?  Also, very likely, you need to change the input on the TV to disply signal from component input.  Does the TV work with other component video source?  DVD player?

Some DVI to Component adapters are only compatible with certain cards. Mine only works with a handful of ATi cards. You might want to double check compatibility.

it just gets all scrambled and then turns to a solid blue line when i put it on the component input. Im 100% positive the inputs work on the tv, same goes for the dvi ports, i had a monitor hookd up to it previously i tried both dvi ports too. The tv does not have hdmi. Its actually a 6 foot cable, not the adapter.

Couple of things here.....

DVI outputs vary a bit....there is DVI digital, DVI analog, and DVI that output both types of signals.

Your video card probably either outputs the combined analog/digital signal or digital only.  Check the specs on your video card.

If it outputs digital only, you'll need a converter box (which are very spendy) to do the conversion prior to connection to the analog component jacks on your TV.

If your video card does output an analog signal over the DVI, you may have to set the resolution very low so that the TV can sync the signal.

I tried for a couple of years to connect a PC to two different TV's for my mame cab.  I tried cards with TV-out options, going through RF modulators, etc.  I was never happy with the results (and the TV's weren't very pleased either!) so I settled for a PC monitor that I had sitting around.

Good Luck!

Alot of 7600 series cards support component out without using DVI, they came with small break out boxes or cables.

Just to clarify, you did set your computer to 640x480 before hooking up the tv right?

A tv might not be HD, but having component inputs usually means it can handle 480i.

Does the cable that converts the dvi to component have any switches on it, are they set to 480i?

You say this is the 6ft cable, not the adapter.  Did you pick this up from monoprice, it still should have the adapter inside the cable.
