Coin Door Help - AKA - I'm dumb
« on: July 27, 2007, 11:23:46 am »
I'm having a little trouble figuring out how this coin door mechanism A) fits in the coin door and B) can send a trigger saying a coin passed through.  I order a Happs over/under coin door from ebay and since I didn't read the listing thoroughly enough, it came without coin mechs.  I ordered some mechs from someone on this forum and I seem to be too dumb to figure it out....either that or I have the wrong mech.  So without further ado (adieu?):

Picture 1:  The coin door without any mech in it....you may notice the return bin is missing from one of the sides....that's be cause I took it it out in effort to fit the mech in.

Picture 2:  A blurry picture (sorry) of my mech.

Picture 3:  The coin door with the mech in place on the side without the return bin.  Like I said before, it was the only way I could get it to fit.

Picture 4:  This is a side view trying to show that the return bin is in the way.  What you're seeing is the return bin on the other side of the mech in place.

Picture 5: Just another picture.

So....what am I doing wrong? Do I need to order new mechs?  If so, what should I order to be able to handle all change (I wanna use it like a piggy box) and tokens (ordered some BYOAC tokens).

Thanks!

Nathan

See in your last picture, on the right, the "arc" shaped cut out hole? There should be a wire and microswitch mounted on the other side of that. Coin falls out of the mech and hits the switch wire on its way down to th ecoin box.
NO MORE!!

Ahh, that makes sense about the microswitch.  Any clues why it won't fit?  Is that the wrong type of mech?

I can't tell for certain, but It almost looks like those mechs will fit.  The plastic should go under the spots for the connecting screws.

Line up the arrows in my drawing.

That's where I thought that it should go however, the mech is completely flush with the door.  It can't get under those screws.  Is the mech just too wide?

Just flex the bracket a bit.  It'll fit.

Been following this with curiosity.

Any update?  Did you figure it out?  If you want I can post some pics of one of my doors.  Also, might be a good idea to post the measurements of those mechs just to make sure.  It does appear that they should fit, but maybe something is off a bit.  Do you happen to know which happs door it is?

The other thread has really good info to mod them to accept all coins, just a matter of getting them to fit.

I'll let you know this evening.  I'm heading over to my dad's workshop to continue work on the arcade today.  I'll have to look into flexing the brackets but I still don't think there is enough room.  If I recall, they'd need to bend ~1/8" which seems like a lot to me.  I'll measure the mech to see if it the typical width.  As for moding it to accept all coins, that was already done when I bought them.  Coins just slide right through, I need to make sure the microswitch will trigger though.
