im thinking of mounting a comodore 1084s, inside a
cocktail cabinet.ive have seen machines that have had pc monitors mounted
this way.
but am not sure that its a good idea to have it flat instead of horizontal, is it really that bad for
monitors to be placed in a positition they are not meant to function in?
ive heard that its bad to turn a monitor on its side , so i presume this must be not a great idea either.
I may do it anyway and see how long it last's ;)
btw. old commodore 15khz monitors have a great picture with lots of contrast.

It'll be fine.  You'll just have to degauss it with a manual degausser.

No worries. Vertical cabs have their monitor "on it's side". My Galaxian has it (almost) lying flat. And my monitor used to be a (Philips) TV. No problems at all.

You like the Commodore picture ? It's a Philips :)

The concern with horizontally mounted monitors is that tiny bits of debris can fall down into the neck of the tube and short out the color guns.  This is not a major concern unless the game is subjected to a lot of vibration, such as a long trip in a semi truck.  And it's more of a concern with old monitors.  I have been told by pros that it is not a good idea to use a tube in a horizontal position if it has ever been rejuvenated.
