What kind of cab is this?
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:46:12 am »
I know, I know.  Not another one of these threads.  But look at it this way, we're keeping the experts on their toes!

Only marking I can find is the model number which says : CIN

I looked at the Cinimetronics cabs at KLOV, but didn't find one like this.

The cut-corners made me think Dynamo at first, but when I picked it up, the profile was much uglier than a dynamo.

Thanks for any insight.

That 25" monitor set on it's side looks MASSIVE.  The CP does look like a Dynamo but the marquee area looks like it has been flattened on the profile.  Overall the cabinet looks pretty shallow.

Nope...i have no idea.

You are right about the monitor.  I swore up and down it was a 27" until I confirmed both the tube and chassis are 25".

Let's just say I'm playing Ms Pacman in a way I never have before!

I think most of those must have been converted to Aero Fighters or something like it.  When I was working for Mohawk they had three in the shop that were either Aero Fighters, Strikers 1945 or thereabouts.

I've always liked that style cab for vertical games, but I like big monitors.  I passed on a Strikers 1945 that looked just like that a while back.  I've thought about it a number of times since, so it was probably a mistake :P

Well, I'm only a couple states away, Randy, lol.  (Me wonders how much store credit at GGG this would buy me :) )

Also, would anyone have a guess why my cab has 3 visible bolts on each side?  Perhaps to strenghten the monitor mount.  I was debating how much strength it would maintain if I took them out one-by-one and countersunk them?

The bolts may just be involved in mounting the monitor when it isn't vertical. I wouldn't countersink them if I were you. It is too tiny of a detail to risk a mistake on. If you put sideart on then the proper thing to do is remove the bolts, put the sideart on, and then put the bolts back in. I actually sort of like the look of bolts on top of sideart, not sure why, maybe it was because of all the Nintendo cabinets that came that way.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I thought it was kind of odd that the sides come to a point in front of the marquee. It's not that far-fetched that the flyer had a prototype and the production cabinets were different. In fact, here's a couple pics identical to yours to back this up (all of them also seem to be black and the side art is different too):

KLOV Listing

eBay listing

You think that cab is odd, check out the sit-down version.  Leland seemed determined to make "unique" cabinets.

The "CIN" designation actually does make sense. Cinematronics became Leland once sold to Tradewest (who later were bought out by WMS/Midway). More info HERE.
Brevity is not my strong suit.
