Hey all,

I have a PC game (star wars x-wing alliance) that requires a joystick installed in my MAME cab.  The game wont even start without a joystick or game pad installed.  Does anyone know of a way to get a driver or something that will make the keyboard function as a game controller in the windows control panel?  Is there software out there that will do this?

I believe this is what the ppjoykey program does.

this game is retarded... does NOT work well on a MAME cab (for future potential searchers)

Agreed... but if you're looking for a Star Wars game for your cab
there are a few that work reasonably well...

Rogue Squadron 3d
Racer
Starfighter

Check out this post for a few screenshots of starfighter
and some suggestions:

Also, for non-starwars pc games that work well I loaded
Spider-Man
Mechwarrior 3
Tomb Raider 2
Rune

Though these worked "ok" to varying degrees...

ill check those suggestions out!

Addition to PC Games List - Lego Star Wars Trilogy works very well on a MAME cab w/ TV also.  No, Im not a big star wars guy or anything, just happened to be searching star wars games when I found several of em to try.

Yeah, a few people have told me this.
Unfortunately I can't run it on my wimpy PII 300Mhz cab.   :banghead:
I'll probably upgrade w/in a year or so and bask in hippness.

I liked the Racer and Mechwarrior games because I've actually
seen these in entertainment centers as motion/arcade games now.
Crimson Skies was another one but I don't think it handles the tv's
640x480 resolution.  If you had a pc monitor in your cab you'd probably
be fine.
