Trackball Colors
« on: July 16, 2007, 06:51:29 pm »
Before I really knew what I wanted, I bought a red 2.25" trackball and the Optipac to drive it. (I am leading up to a first-time build although I bought many non-working cabs, repaired and resold them late eighties.)

Now, after looking at all the wonderful panels that have implemented lighting, I want to go to a 3" (for the mass) and illuminated ball.

I have found blue (my favorite when lit) and clear-which seems like you could easily change the color using leds, maybe even alternate colors on the fly.

The question is, what do you think about clear. Having never seen one, I wondered if they might get hazy or otherwise show wear if used very much.

I have seen old white ones that look brand new when cleaned.

If you're really interested in changing colors on the fly, perhaps you should check out RandyT's Electric ICE-T Trackball?

Oh yeah, they are nice.

If someone knows of an example of a CP with a clear TB, please link to it.

I have some videos on mine of the electric ice trackball changing colors, but it looks like the hosting site is on maintenance.

As for a clear trackball, most tend to avoid it because they are too clear.  If you add an LED which you probably will, it will magnify the light instead of difusing it.  This is the reason randy's electric ice ball works so well.  The soft white spreads the color through the whole trackball.  With a clear ball you could get a shot of light in your eye on a golden tee swing.

If you are not adding an led under it, it would look cool.
