Greatest Deal ever on Ebay ? SUPER CHEXX
« on: July 16, 2007, 06:44:05 pm »
We've all had our ups and downs from ebay purchasing, usually things are OK.  I believe I just got the greatest machine ever for 300.00   I've been searching for 3 years for a NON WORKING super chexx, a few weeks ago, one was listed in Washington STATE.  PICKUP only, no PCB .  I asked the guy if I could send NAVL to pick it up, he said NO PROBLEM, let the bidding begin.  306 bucks later, the machine was mine.  THIS THING IS MINT !  It just arrived today and looks as if it was NEVER PLAYED.  The players, the surface, the bubble, the coin door, rods, EVERYTHING is super clean !  It doesn't make sense why someone would steal the board from a BEAUTIFUL machine.  It's the USA VS CANADA as well, even better than the NEW GENERIC men ICE is selling now!   I couldn't find a PCB anywhere other than ICE, they sold me a REFURBED with the same warranty as a NEW one for 350 (ouch).  A new puck was 5.00   To total it all up, NAVL was 430.00 to get it to NJ.  I'm in  1085.00  for a MINT CONDITION SUPER CHEXX .   I'll keep it until someone comes up with 2000.00  These are impossible to find around here in NJ .   I emailed the guy who liquidated it to see where he got it from, the curiousity is killing me.  You guys really need to see this.  EVEN THE SIDE STICKERS are PERFECT with no scrapes or peeling !  ANYONE else have some GREAT BUY'S from Ebay to share ?  GAME ON!!!!

Umm..... all the way across the country for $430 dollars? thats like 2700 miles I disagree with the reaming.  I got shipped a complete long block from Utah to Maryland and it was 345 bucks via forward air, and I had to drive 80 miles in a pick up truck to get it.

As for hockey arcade games.....    Im a HUGE fan of NHL 2 on 2 Open Ice challenge, its pretty much NBA Jam on ICE. Theres also Wayne Gretzky's 3D hockey its like a 3D version of Open Ice. And of course the classic Hit the Ice, which is the hockey version of Arch Rivals

Rayb says RHEEMED on shipping, who else to use?
« Reply #5 on: July 17, 2007, 12:20:16 am »
Always looking for a better source for shipping than NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES but haven't found one.  RAYB was kind enough to let me know that I was "rheemed" on shipping for a super chexx going from WASHINGTON STATE to NEW JERSEY ($430.) but he forgot to include who I SHOULD'VE USED ?   An official RHEEMING can only take place if there are OTHER options (encyclopedia Britanica) .  The seller stated "NO SHIPPING" so that meant I had to use a service that would come DO EVERYTHING at pickup as he was NOT going to pallet the machine.   If RAYB is out there and would enlighten me as to who I SHOULD'VE used, that would be great.  Also, what shipping company do you guys know of that does all of the work at pickup like NAVL does?  Believe me, I would love to take my business elsewhere as NAVL destroyed a DK3 that I shipped across the country.  They WOULD NOT re-imburse me as the BUYER accepted delivery even though the machine was NOT wrapped correctly!  (buyer just signed as machine arrived, then contacted me after looking at all the damage, NAVL said "too bad".)   Being the great guy that I am, I refunded the BUYER out of my pocket!   GAME ON

That definitely sounds like a standard shipping price. Prices have gone up quite a bit in the last couple years, I guess since fuel is so much more expensive post-Katrina.

I have never had the priveledge of playing a Super Chexx, so I don't understand why people pay ~$2000 for these things. Is it more of a nostalgic purchase, or are these things like 10000000 times better than Fooseball??

BTW, cool purchase.

Wow! Nice find. Man, $350 for a board that counts down, keeps score, and boos. Seems steep to me considering what some boards are capable of. Seems like someone would repro these for $50. But you gotta go with what's available.

So...you are paying $250 for the game and $1750 for the boo button? ;)

A hell of alot less than $1750.

If I really put my mind to it, considered all the little crap I've bought, all the crap I've sold, etc...

Probably around $500, and that is for two fully working cabs, 2 project cabs, and a bevy of parts. I'm a cheap mofo  ;D.

That's pretty good - I don't have your budgeting ability, that's for sure!

However, $1100 is a pretty good price for a Super Chexx - especially considering the condition it's in. Personally, I'd only go about $500 for one, and most likely I would have to fix it up...

I do ALOT of micro dealing, and I wait MONTHS for things to pop up at great prices. I have bought lots of stuff, then sold off the pieces once I took what I wanted (or realized I didn't need it). I might make $1 here, $2 there, but it adds up. Some people might think I am crazy for going thru the effort to make a buck, but when I can say to the Misses "Hey sweetie, I just made a few dollars on a sale!" It is what keeps me in business. ;) ;D

No pins yet. I have passed on a handful of pins in the sub $500 area. At that level, they always have issues and when I get my first pin, I want everything working. It is VERY hard to micro-manage a pinball hobby, as you know. ;D

If you get lucky and do a group buy though, you can always get a few pins, sell off the extras and keep what you want for free. I'm still on the lookout for one of those deals, but they are always scooped up off the market by the pinheads before they see the light of day. If I hear one more of said pinheads "I bought this for $500 and disappointingly had to let it go for $1750 so I can get these three classic vids for $800..." I think I'll spew. "The quote is a true story BTW"

Those deals are definitely getting rarer by the year.  They never hit the open market anymore, that is for sure.  I've had one or two of those myself, the biggest one being a Twilight Zone and Shadow I bought from my workplace, then shopped and sold the TZ for a little more than (I paid for both + shop costs).

But, in the overall scheme of number of pin titles out there, there really are only so many that go for $1750+.  Most don't go near that price range.

Marky, chill out. No offense ok.  I keep hearing $250-$300 as the average rate to ship a video upright via NAVL, terminal to terminal. The catch is you have to speak to this particular woman (named Michelle I think?), who knows the correct item categories for a device like that. Otherwise they go and quote you higher rates based on some other default category. I figured a Chexx is shorter, lighter. Should cost less than what you quoted.

Anyways, sounds like you can afford it, so all you had to say was "I can afford it." and I would shut up.  ;D

I understand some people upset with 430.00 shipping, but you have to keep it all in context of what you're getting.  I would've bid up to 600 on ebay for the machine, so only paying 306.00 for the winning bid really lightened the blow.  The machine will easily sell for 2000.00 when I'm ready, so, I'll get my fill for awhile, then turn her over to someone else who is really looking for one.  WHAT MAKES THE GAME SO GREAT ?  Hard to say exactly, it's clearly the BEST 1 on 1 arcade machine, requires luck and SKILL , and is fair on both sides.  The ORGAN sounds, the OHH'S and AHH'S when one slides just past the crease, the BOO BUTTON , The satisfaction of putting one by the goalie, MAN, I'm not even a HOCKEY fan, but I love SUPER CHEXX.   To those who don't understand the craze, CAN ANYONE else help with WHY Chexx machine's sell for so much money ?   I had one in my ice cream parlor and little league teams would come in and SWARM the thing, 5 on 5 would ensue with screaming kids all over it !  YEP, 25 years later, our beloved BUBBLE HOCKEY is still kick ass!

i took some great pics, but can't get them to load as they're TOO BIG for this program or something, anyhow, you can see from these other pics that EVEN THE RODS are CLEAN !  I don't think this machine was ever played, there isn't one scrape on the surface, the gears are still factory TIGHT and everyone's sticks are right smack on the ICE.  I can't get over how clean the bubble and everything else is, this was a true GEM.  Makes up for the HANGLY MAN that I found in the PAC cocktail from Ebay!

Cross-country shipping rate sounds about right to me.  MAYBE a little high, depending on how quickly you got it but, hey - you got a GREAT deal, depending on how much the PCB will run you.

I LOVE bubble hockey - we had a little 3 man "league" in college - great fun.  Kept track of GAA and such.  ;)

If only I could get the wife to see my way on one of these. . .
