LCD Topgun - into cabinet?
« on: July 12, 2007, 11:24:29 am »
Hi All,

Still pretty new to all this, so please bear with me!

I have ordered an "LCD Topgun" from playasia and its been shipped today, but not sure when its going to arrive in UK.

Anyway, has anyone added one of these to their cab? I should be beginning construction on Saturday, so I need to know what I need to allow and best ways to fix things - I see that the gun comes with 2 sensor bars for the side of the monitor?

As I know this is going to be part of the cab, should I think of a way to fit them into the bezel, or attach them somewhere else?

Also, for future, I take it if I get another one of these (same model), then it will work with the sensor bars already in place?

Thanks for any help!

Paul.

Paul,

I've fitted my sensors within the bezel at either side of the TV.

And only read the post above if you have an evening free .... :)

Things have come a long way since that post started though.

Basically get hold of Smogs guncon2 drivers.
Make sure you are running the latest version of mame.
Edit your mame.in to tell it you have a lightgun.

That should be it........

Cheers Buks, whilst on a search I found your blogspot page and saw how (or where) you mounted the strips.

Thinking of doing something similar, but as I am yet to start building, I wont have to hack anything out for the strips, I can think how to build them in as part of the cab.

Does it have to be the latest MAME? I am currently 3/4 through getting all the .114 games (isnt 116 the latest version?).

Now I've committed to 114, I dont want to have to get them all again  :dunno Would most of them work with 116, or would the guns work with 114?

Thanks again!

There is not a big difference between the roms in v114 and v116 of MAME.  Mostly it is a few new roms and a few rebuilds.  You do want to make sure that the MAME program version matches the rom file version.  There is a tool as well that can convert the rom files from one MAME version to the next or previous version, CLRMAMEPro.

.117 is the newest, which includes working cps3 games.

You should be fine with .114 as I was running .104 until very recently. I'm now running .116 but I think I'm missing all the big CHD files from 105 onwards.

.117 is out !!!????!!! Boy I keep missing these anouncements !!!!

I am going to have to get that update.  I like the Street Fighter games.  I just hope that my old computer can handle them.
