Introduction and small questions
« on: July 11, 2007, 03:30:43 pm »
Good day.

This is my first ever post on this board, I am Angelo, I greet you all :)
I have been involved with arcade playing since the 80s and
finally got the chance to discover the world of DIY arcade
when I got my hands on an old, damaged Cruisin' Usa
cabinet (monitorless) and half a dozen of old control panels.

My attempts to revive it has been successfull this far, however, two things
bother me slightly.  :dizzy:

1) I have the full steering wheel system + force feedback device
attached,  is it possible to have it used in mame with a certain
(commercial) adaptor ?

2) I have dozens of button switches like in the picture added, are there
still compatible buttons to be found for it ?
stats of the switch:  inner hole diameter: 1cm / 0.39 inch
overall length 7.5cm / 3 inch
Are they even still sold ?

That'll do for now, I will soon add my project to the forum announcements.
Thank you all.

 :)

Hi there.  For starters, I'm not 100% sure on the force feedback, maybe someone else can chime in.  The unit you have there at the bottom is called a leaf switch.  You can get stuff for those, but it's usually tougher to find since everything is a microswitch now.

Welcome!

There are a bunch of vendors who sell leaf switch buttons, check the Vendors section of the wiki.

ArcadeShop, Mike's Arcade, Bob Roberts, LizardLick and Centsible all come to mind.

That is a sit-down model. Do you have the seat part?

And no, you can't interface your cruisin usa force feedback with MAME. Maybe some day though (I like optimism  ;D)!

Thanks for your replies.  I guess the steering wheel panel is useless then, maybe
i can salvage the speakers inside it though.  Too bad, the gearstick and
wheel seemed cool  ;)

In all case, it does indeed resemble a leafswitch like on the picture on the wiki
(which i thought i read through, tsk tsk me... sorry..).  Now to order the needed
buttons !
Thanks for the help !

Unfortunately not, it will be a sweet bench-model once i visit the IKEA store in Belgium
somewhere ;)

You could use the shifter and steering wheel in mame though :)

You can use the controls in MAME, you just can't interface the force-feedback system.

Do a search on "dual strike steering hack" to find a way to use the wheel...or get an A-Pac from Ultimarc.

I wonder if this usb interface from happ would provide forcefeed back with the optional daughter card?

http://www.happcontrols.com/images/pdf/ins-0037.pdf

I'm just throwing this out there I don't know if it will work or not.  On page 2 it makes mention of output for lights and solenoids.  Hopefully someone who knows a lot more about this than me can chime in an say if this will work for force feedback.

Thanks again for the helpfull replies.

Hmm, the force feedback has a low priority now that I hear that
the wheel and gears CAN be hooked up somehow.

After work, I will take a look at the cables going from both devices
and compare it with the A-pac.  Too bad the pedals dont work no more,
but I guess that is a challenge on its own...

If you are a wiz programmer that can find a way to interface with the thoroughly buried code for force feedback in MAME, knock yourself out. ;D I am waiting to see what cool things people can do with that driver board, it could be really neat!
