CD/DVD carousel devices

Couple of questions for you folks. 

First off, Does anyone have any experience with one of these things? (or any similar device)

Secondly, has anyone attempted to utilize one of these with an arcade front end?

It just seems like a great thing.  load all of your console CDs in these things, then automate the interface with the arcade front end instead of their software.

Seems like a good idea.  But with the price of hard drives so low.

I think these are the actual carousel's that Microsoft uses to store their Xbox games. There's a video floating around somewhere that shows a wall of all of these tied together.

From the wording of your post, are you thinking that the discs can be loaded from these? If that's the case, no, that's not how they work. They're advanced disc storage boxes.

I can't find a readily available driver for the carousel. collectorz.com has a seperate, downloadable, driver for their software and the description of the carousel implies it's using some kind of standard interface.

Let me clarify.   In my cabinet, I am using a Saturn, PS2 and soon a DC to play games (everything pre Saturn is in emulation).

My Thought/goal is to use these in conjunction with GameEx.  Select the game in GameEx and the CD gets selected & ejected by the Carousel.  At the same time , a remote controlled A/V Switch  swaps to the appropriate console.  Grab the disc from the carousel, and insert into the console.

I don't see why not. You'll have to see if someone created drivers or the drivers are available. Otherwise, you'll have to create your own drivers and an interface to your FE.
