Recently purchased a wiifree chip from Hoagie.  Top notch open source code, installed in 8pin IC socket in order to upgrade later.  Under $10 with wire, socket, solder, chip etc.  I don't think you could ask for more.

How do the chip sockets work? Would you have to solder at all?

you have to solder the wires to the DVD drive MoBo and to the socket.  Then you just plug in the chip.  It's for people who want to have access to the chip at a later date for reprogramming or external mounting.

I don't have any soldering skills so would need to find a local installer.  Anyone in the so cal area?

there are a couple guys on here that can do mail order work, SNAAKE and Northerngames.  Also OTBMods.com does good work as well.

Yeah I know there are a few guys that can, but I would prefer to get it done locally.  Shipping back and forth will be more than the mod itself especially if you add insurance to it.
