Trying to choose a gun...
« on: July 05, 2007, 01:28:08 am »
Hey everybody, newbie here.  I've spent quite a bit of time searching the threads here and I have yet to find just the right information that I was looking for.  I have found many reviews of specific guns, but I would like some help picking a set out.

I have a Betson 27" Arcade Monitor (VGA) and am using the ultimarc ArcadeVGA video card.  I have the rest of my cabinet design complete save for the guns.  I am a big fan of Police Trainer and am looking to purchase two guns that I will be able to use with MAME for this game.  I would like something as close to the original controls as possible, so having to stand 6' away from the screen is out of the question.  I am kind of leaning towards the Act-Labs guns right now but their look is not too 'arcade'ish... maybe I'm just being too picky, but I would like your suggestions on this topic.  Thanks for helping out a newbie ;-)

Then you're basically out of luck.

Well, it's not like the Police Trainer guns, but the fixed-base, positional guns, like on Operation Wolf or the T2 game, are pretty cool.  You won't need to stand far away, and though it's definitely not arcade original for Police Trainer, it works.

Hey guys, just to clarify, light guns would be ok, I'm not opposed to those.  I am looking for guns that LOOK more original. I know that Act-labs sells a "heavy use" shell for their gun but then I end up with having to buy four things from them.  If I have to I will but I was really looking for some better ideas if anyone had any.  Thanks again for helping me out!

If you want a heavy use type gun that works the act labs combo with the arcade type guns is about your only solution unless you want to hack some arcade guns with what ever gun innard you want.

Just a quick update, I did order my guns from Act-Labs and they arrived in about 3 business days!  I have them but have not hooked them up yet, I am in the middle of moving right now, bad timing for the arcade cab.  The guns feel nice save for the trigger action on the heavy duty guns is a little cheesy, but I think it will do.  I'll let you know when I test them out for real.
