emboxX
« on: July 04, 2007, 06:53:07 am »
Hi :)

There's german jukebox software available: www.emboxx.de

Since now everything is german but the author is translating both the homepage and the software.

I know it's not for free but it is the best I've ever tried in my Happy Touch-Jukebox.

Just a little hint

Oh, and I'm not getting any money for this "commercial" ;)

Yes : http://www.emboxx.de/BSide/hcmb.htm

Looks like a pretty dressed up "Windowsee" themed Media Player to me.   :dunno

Not very "Jukeboxee" in my opinion.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

You couldn't use it on a touch screen with those scroll bars.

I modified a videogame with touchscreen and I promise you: emboxX works perfect with the touchscreen ;)

@Kevin: of course it's a matter of personal taste :)

Well you must have very small fingers and a ver acurate touchscreen because the scroll bars on the screen shot are tiny, they look even smaller than the standard windows ones. Do you have any screenshots of the skin you are using on a touchscreen?

Also do you know if the english version has a QWERTY keyboard on the seach screen?

How does it handle album art?

I only ask here because the entire site is in german.

For configuration I use a keyboard and a mouse.

I have a 20" touchscreen....I guess that makes using the scrollbars much easier.

If you mean album covers and that stuff: emboxX doesn't make use of graphics.

What is your favourite Jukebox-Software?

I'd like to have different databases (Rock, 80s, etc.) and then choose from which databases the songs can be played. emboxX doesn't do that and it seems that the programmer will not include that function that I proposed :(

So, do you know a software that does that?

There are jukebox developers out here, which of course recommended own software as well (like I does), hence I do not choose a favorit software. The software out here is very deficient, so there are no best software. It a personly chooise (like you did wicth this software).

I do recommended to add this software to the Wiki, since it is a nice software.

In my own software example, MultiJuke, was actuelly designed using deficient databases in mind (here I destriped as Librarys and will shown them in the frontscreen). But I guess the touchscreen is way to big, due that way I have desigend it for (because it also was designed for use with few buttons as possible)?

Barcrest do have his own software, Freebox, which was designed with (a bit smaller) touchscreen in mind and is Album based.

I shared some mails with the programmer of emboxX today.

He doesn't want to make it with the databases but different categories. I've thought about that a little and made some suggestions he did agree with.

You will be able to add categories (70s, 80s, Rock, Pop, Sondtrack, Classic, Folk, etc.). Then you can choose a CD and checkbox the necessary categories. You can also select one or more songs of the CD and add them another category (i.e. "My Favorites"). I hope this will make the jukebox as flexible as I'd like it to be :)

Meanwhile I will check out the other jukebox-software and see if they can push emboxX from its place ;)

If the app support genre, why not to use that?

You will be able to add categories (70s, 80s, Rock, Pop, Sondtrack, Classic, Folk, etc.).

Freebox uses the genre tags to build a database for each genre that you can then select and browse through.

Thanks barcrest, but that's not what I want.

The "Jukebox" stands in our game-hall (www.thludwig.de  ...no pictures of the box, yet). When we have one of our gaming evenings I want to configure the jukebox only for the genres that I want (for explame only Rock-Classix shall be played). Our guests can only select songs from that genre and nothing else.

My mate likes movie soundtracks very much (as I do, too) but it would be......"disturbing" when we play our arcades and someone selects an orchestral track from a movie soundtrack ;)

That you need is a "GenreLock" feature, so it can been locked to the current list, after you have selected your genre.
When locked, you should not been able to select "show genre" again, until you unlock it again (of course using a hidden key or a password proctected area). Should been simple to made, if emboxX have the genre feature.

I have added this feature to my next release of MultiJuke. By now this feature require a key, but I do add it to the control panel list as well, before release (which can been password proctected). I do not have a plan to save it remembed state as well, just temperary.

Not what you want but it does what you ask for hmmmm.

All you do is pick the genre you want then it displays covers only from that genre. Unless somebody actually switched the genre then it will not change. If you hid the genre button after picking a genre they can't even change it without getting into the options which are pin coded.

However if you wanted it to random play from a specific genre then i admit i have not added that yet.
