Legality check please...

I saw this and was curious on how he could sell these if they are free to the public elsewhere, and if this was even legal? Tell what you think. Making money off other peoples hard work.

It's probably not legal (because he doesn't have permission to use the copyrighted art) but if he was the one who made the CD with the index and links and everything then he did add some value... still, I tend to think that if you know anything at all about the hobby you know better than to pay for something like this.

taking free stuff, packaging it up is not legal.  he would have to have the permission of the sites to be able to do it.  i just nailed a guy last week trying to sell openoffice, which is a free piece of software.

It may not be stupidity...could just be ignorance. While I agree to "let the buyer beware" and I also agree that any buyer should research what he is buying...the seller is the badguy here...he is probably (I say probably because we have no evidence that he does not have proper permissions and such...though I doubt he does) breaking the law and making it seem as though he is doing you a favor.

To be devil's advocate, he did sell it for only $9.00, so he could make claims that he wasn't selling it for profit and just charging for the media it's burned on. In that sense he would simply be giving the product away, and you can't be sued for giving a product away for free that was free to begin with.

And that $9 includes shipping, which, once you additionally factor in time, E-bay/PayPal fees and materials means he's probably making a couple of bucks tops. So while it may be a morally gray area, I, personally mind you, am fine with it. If he was charging $20+ for them, I'd probably be a bit incensed, but for $9, it actually seems like a decent deal if you're in the market for art images..
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.
